Auction of unique Help for Heroes Scania

Auction of unique Help for Heroes Scania gets Dame Vera Lynn’s seal of approval

Dame Vera Lynn has added her signature to a customised truck that is being auctioned for the Help for Heroes charity

The 2002 Scania R124, which has been “pimped” by Truck & Driver magazine and a host of industry sponsors,
is on eBay now. It is hoped it will raise thousands of pounds, all of which will be donated to this worthwhile charity. Bids start at 1p and the auction closes on November 15.

Is it just me or is it more of a “truck and driver” scania than a help for heroes scania? The mag has its logo’s large all over it while the H4H just seems to have a small medal emblem.

Like any large organisation Help for Heroes are keen to ensure use of their logo is not abused, so they lay down certain constraints on where and how it is used- which we of course went along with

Fair enough, maybe the title should read “Truck and driver scania in aid of help for heroes”.
There is a scania knocking about that has some really nice paintwork supporting the forces, was expecting similar when I saw the title.

Apologies for it being a facebook link but the pics are on the red lion truckstops page.

Its only done a million kms :open_mouth:

A good cause, but I’m not sure about that interior.

If I was buying a truck, it would not be that!

Its sold for £16,600, more than a 10 year old Scania is worth on book value, I would like to think some one has bought and paid that price for what it represents- a commitment from many areas of the industry to help our hurt/injured troops-
which ever way you look at this- the transport industry gave a truck, refurbished and customised it (wether to your taste or not) and have sold it and given £16.600 to support our troops, I dont care if you dont like the way it was customised… I like that large cheque going to do some good and thats what this whole 2 year project was about

Glad you got a good price for it, and thanks to everyone who gave their time, money, expertise or whatever to help a great cause.

That was a ■■■■ poor auction, i would have thought as it was for charity that they would have taken more time in listing it and putting decent pictures etc, it has some awesome stainless work on the rear and on the stacks with the H4H emblem on them but not a mention of them

I didn’t even know it was finished, let alone up for auction!

Dont tell me gobby480 bought it ?

Agree with you, I just think the Truck and driver logos should have been a lot lot smaller. As you say, its all about helping the troops. IMO the truck is advertising the magazine more than anything else.

Andy Salter, managing director, Road Transport Media Ltd
Colin Barnett, editor, Truck & Driver
Nick Walker, Walker Movements Ltd
Mark Elliott, head of external operations, Help For Heroes

A marathon fund-raising project by Truck & Driver magazine reached its conclusion recently, when a customised Scania R124 tractor unit was handed over to its new owner, and a cheque for £16,600 was simultaneously presented to the Help For Heroes charity.

The handover took place at Tedworth House, Help For Heroes’ flagship recovery centre. Here, wounded, injured, sick and returning service personnel complete the recovery process that links their medical rehabilitation to their return to as normal a life as possible.

Pimp My Truck was the brainchild of former Truck & Driver editor Will Shiers and completed by his successor Colin Barnett, who both attended the handover together with Road Transport Media managing director Andy Salter. Barnett said “It’s been a considerable challenge to co-ordinate the input from so many generous supporters, but the quality of the finished truck which has enabled us to raise such a significant sum for this most deserving charity has made it all worthwhile.”

I have the distinct feeling that those who ran this project are probably glad to see the back of it but I am sure the money will be of benefit to H4H.
Cheap lorry though, the sum of the parts alone must exceed £16K.

Isn’t Walker Movements a second-hand truck dealer??

yes, they are, but, i would presume that they would keep this themselves for vehicle movements

Glad it made a good bit of cash, should think it was good fun building it.
