I know theres very little of the old factory at Winery Lane left standing sadly.Nothing in life as they say stands still for ever.I am sure many of us would love to think of it caressed in some form of time warp with notices on the wall and a few cobwebs gathering over an assembly line littered with various parts and the like.Oh and of course big Atkinson Vehicles of Preston signs on the wall everywhere just to remind us subtly were we actually are.
But sady thats not the case.Nor is the case that there seems to any photographs of the factory or the production line. After hours of searching the only photos I have managed to locate are of the last MK ii on the assembly line and one of some staff gathered outside.
So very little for such a large prestigious manufacturer.Does anyone out there have anything they can share >>>■■?
Fred Chappell (Batley) gave me a new Atki 8 wheeler tipper in 1962, Gardner 150 and a 6 speed DB box. I spent many happy hours in that machine, I once took it, loaded, UP Sutton Bank near Thirsk.(very naughty). HGV’s were banned up there but as the load of salt was for the hill…why not. Stopped at the botton, No.1 gear and the revs hardly dropped all the way up. A great motor.
Happy days.

I thought that most of the factory was still there, apart from the office block at the front?
I do have some photos of the production line, and there are several in the Atkinson house magazines of the 1960s.
Oh, and I still have the nameplate off the electricity substation!
