ATA Carnets

Can you get ATA carnets completed by Customs at Ashford truckstop, and if so, where exactly do you get it done?

Thanks for any help.

You don’t need to tell me about Ramsgate Pete, I lived in Ramsgate for 17 years and it was the sight of trucks coming off the Sally line which inspired me to get into this mess in the first place, when I was a minicab driver! I still live just a few miles away.

But the client is saying Dover or Folkestone in this case…

Hi Vince
The last time i used a ATA carnet,i had it done in ashford but it was said that they were going to stop it.But they did not say when.
Good luck. have a good trip.

Vince ,that was for me the best ferryline, I have had the best time of my
D-GB-D TRIPS , the service could never be repeated by some of the other companys , for me a 7–star rateing and yes alright some of the ships were old but clean, tidy . nice food and the dutyfrees were also good,

When i loaded for Swiss a fortnight ago and was using the train, i was told to get my T Forms done at the terminal and not at Ashford, not right i thought, but the forwarder swore it was, so i went there and they were in there, where the old shop used to be, next to the Beaureau d Change.

I was on for Romac when I first started and was on the Sally Sun/Star 3 nights a week sometimes.

As you say, happy days. I remember that Mortimers (eat more chips) and BJ Waters were regular on there too.

Vince

Thanks for that Kindle, it’s Swiss I’m going to.

Vince which border ,german or french side, if its the german try to listen to SWR-3 RADIO ,as they are up to date with problems on the border
and if there is a jam at the border don,t try to creep foward illeagly as
they will fine you and then send you to get on the back of the queue.
also if you are useing the FRENCH SIDE the road from strasbourg down
to basel is wellused now due to the german maut, with more lorry
controls than before,
I used to do 3 trips with a gas tanker onthose boats ,yes wonderful times
was had.

Why can’t you get the carnet stamped by French/German customs at the Swiss border (ie going out of EC) and then take it to the Swiss office?

We use Channel Ports for our docs when doing Swiss, they are now located in the building beside the burger van. Though we have stopped clearing there as they have no customs on site now and if they want to inspect you they come up from Dover, we had one van there for 22hours :imp:

We now go down to Dover and do it there then run back up to the tunnel if that’s the way were going out.

A real pain in the rear since they moved from Ashford.

I’m not 100% sure about this Spaceman, but I think that the ATA carnet, like the T - form, is supposed to be completed in the country of origin of the journey. One of the others will put me right , if I have got it wrong. (Getting minor details like this wrong, make the job a lot harder  ).

there is a story in Commercial Motor about this subject :stuck_out_tongue:

From now on Customs facilities & clearance will be done at the Tunnel offices, rather than the Ashford Truck Park as this has been sold to Developers.

EuroTunnel Freight have said that they are going to build a set of stairs, just to make the old ■■■■■ happy :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy days, tho now recon it would be a ‘hi viz no smokin’ q on the stairs job.

hi vince…i guess your taking exhibition goods or a band equipment out…and using the a.t.a.as a document for re- importing it back…i would feel sure that customs in dover would stamp it for you…its been years since i used a.t.a. carnet and that was for the royal shakespeare company tour…you could always check first with chamber of commerce…or customs direct…good luck anyway
