At what stage........

… of executing your plan do you (a) think “yup, this going well, I’ll push on”, or (b) think "nope, not gonna happen, I’ll carry on along this road as there’s surely a roundabout ahead somewhere "?
(Not my picture)

What on earth am I seeing? :open_mouth:

What is the back-story to this?

:grimacing: :grimacing:

About that stage…

To be fair, it looks like he jacknived it coming down hill.

Not a clue Mick. I’d love to be able to say that the driver was completely blameless in this, but I think that we both know that’ll be unlikely.

Nope, doesn’t compute, how the hell did the bod behind the wheel get into that situation.

Black ice? road a sheet of ice, wagon jack knifes and trailer slides into ditch.

Or jackknife on an icy road ?
Maybe along with “no need for that ABS lead”?
.
Edit
Fools seldom differ…

Or…

(c) panic.

If I had to put money on it it would go on "disastrous U turn attempt ". I’m happy to be proved wrong however.

I think that all of us will at least once but more likely many times have been forced for whatever reason into an unplanned U turn which we’ve aborted. We’ll have aborted (again) for many reasons; awkwardly parked vehicle, street furniture in an awkward place, whatever. The difference being we’ve aborted and moved to a more suitable location, thus creating a non event.

By coincidence…

My last ever wobble occured driving for Somerfield when they ran out of Sherbun.

Small Volvo artic and short urban trailer loaded with two drops around Yorkshire. Pre sat-nav days so the photo-copied instructions were useless. Of course I missed the turning somewhere and ended up heading in to narrow laned, steep hill country around Halifax which I just knew would end badly sooner or later. I found a perfectly tarmaced drive on my left that sloped away from the road with enough room to nose down and back up and out. I drove down, straightened out, noted that I had plenty of room to back out on to the road on my good side, engaged reverse and went nowhere. For over 10 minutes I tried with diffs in, diffs out, suspension dropped, suspension raised, trailer raised, trailer dropped and all manner of combinations and the ■■■■ thing just skittered sideways left and then sideways right. The more I tried, the thicker the smoke off my tyres became.

I eventually got back out after I stopped a local farmer in a nearby field and offered him a fiver to rescue me with a chain.

I just want to get this in now while the thread is still on the first page. In before Carryfast appears with his highly detailed scientific and technical analysis on the stresses on the pin, fifth wheel plate and chassis from his extensive knowledge of playing Euro Truck Simulator and recreating real life events therein. :grimacing:

Nice one Mick

A single carriageway that is not a danger width-wise to an artic…

Surely this is a jackknifed vehicle though, as at very least - one would expect the most daft of U turn attempts to be in some path opening in the hedge/field or something? :open_mouth:

Is it possible he forgot what tri he had on , when I did Tesco the tris would be of a different length on a daily basis , 8/9 metre when doing small shops & mostly 13 metre when doing the large supermarket , I once went to screw it round comming out of Huddersfield after missing turn only to see a 13 metre in mirror so quickly straightened up with no damage done ,
Nb not done Tesco for years so lengths of those urban tris could be wrong

Looks like a jack knife - greasy road etc etc

You forgot to provide your explanation.

Typical artic driver mindset. If the unit will turn round in the available width the trailer will surely follow it no problem. :smiling_imp:

If I was that Co-op driver I’d do the classic ‘No night out money’ move and bugger off home. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Except he forgot to check that the field behind the hedge was at the same level as the road.

There are 3 choices.
But only based on positive waves.
The road will definitely get you there no matter how bad it looks.
Or there will be a turning place.
Or if you drove into it you can reverse out of it.
But if you let the negative waves get to you this is what happens. :smiling_imp:

Sat Nav error. Please Make a U Turn.

fanny in a Scanni
