do the traffic planners say " the weather is going to be bad tonight according to the forecast, so we’ll stand the vehicles down.
I hope the 3 lorry and coach driver got home safely after their respective incidents, especially the B and M Driver.

It should be made law that when say a yellow alert is issued hgvs are banned for specific time

They dont they not going out so why bother about weather
If you cannot drive your commercial vehicle in adverse weather conditions perhaps you should restrict yourself to summer driving or seek
alternative emploment.I expect some of our Scottish/Northern drivers will be off to the Maldives till the weather improves as they usually
do this time of the year.
they never say, best not travel tonight as itl obviously be a total bollox, hence the same pish every year, every year theres always a couple of nights when 30 trucks blow over between Carlisle and lymm on the m6 because of wind.the planners on’t care as it dosent come out of anyones pockets…im near Gothenburg just now where it was minus 13 last night with snow.people just use decent tyres and get on with it,which once again, makes Britain just look and act pathetic. as usual you just read the same whiteout/chaos/rubbish…if I was one of the guys pushing the blue reliant robin up the hill in the pics, then id certainly relieve the snowed in boredom by kicking his balls to a pulp for being such a nugget in bringing it out in the 1st place on a snowy day.( possibly it may have been a 4wd version) ■■
It is up to the driver to say no. He is responsible for the vehicle and should know his own capabilities. In adverse weather conditions I can drive better than some, I have also seen others go where I have stopped.
For me it is - if in doubt STOP! I’d sooner wait than fill out forms and/or help cutting someone out of a vehicle I’ve just squashed.
Our planners allow us to make the decision if it’s ok to continue, they don’t want us putting ourself, anyone else, vehicles or anything in danger if it can be avoided and will back us up to the customer if we do make that call.
Can’t fault them, spot on.
Why does this country fall apart in 3in of snow?

Lots of people in this country carry on and don’t worry they just make allowances for the weather, but that wouldn’t make a sensationalist story for the papers.

It has to be, real men get on with it, although some of the pathetic excuses for drivers I see at my place in particular puts it in some doubt.

Although sometimes I have been wondering if I’ve had a few bottom clenching moments that has made me wonder if I’ve made the right decision to carry on.

That’s how it should be done, companies that back their drivers and treat them as professionals that can make decisions.
Sadly there are a lot of drivers who seem to want to be spoon feed by the office or would look at it as an opportunity not to go to work.
for once i seem to agree with a few posters on the same topic here…h&s cabbages, plus tosco type fannies…ergo…roads grind to a halt. though it would help if planners didn’t just send you out willy nilly…perish the thought that someone might even have to endure an unplanned night out if they run out of time and the office cant send a helicopter down to airlift them home again…

says it all…
whats a few inches of snow.
I retract my last post even if the winds are 90 mph we must carry on trucking because hgv drivers are real men and can handle any conditions.
Load of crap i dont want to prove i am a man by driving in adverse weather where i may kill myself and even someone else but to all the REAL MEN that want to please do carry on

All well and good on the main roads and motorways, no problem. I’m quite happy in my ability to drive in snow but when it comes to delivering down village/council estate back streets that have almost certainly not been gritted and are definitely going to see you sliding down backwards writing off everything in sight before embedding yourself in someones living room then yeah, I’ll make that call.
I love the challenges snow brings but 26t sliding out of control is probably no fun to whoever I may inconvenience in the process
