Gentlemen, does anyone recognize this machine, clue it is not in itâs normal livery. Also itâs worth a very close look, itâs not what it appears to be.
Dave.
I will take a very long shot / wild guess and sayâŠis that Athol Addisons old truck but with a rear lift axle added to the front half?
I remember the write up in Truck magazine about it back in 1980 something. Not that I would know but its just a guess!!
Im sure there are some pics of it on this thread somewhere.
is it dericks old motor
Hi all.Just looked up an old pic of Athols motor when it was almost new and in blue.It was originally a 3axle truck with a 2 axle trailer. My pic is from May 1983.Mike
I dont think its Athol/Rancey truck myself,

Is that Williams Scania on the left? Photo by Krister Högström.
That picture really sets the scene during that era of Middle East road transport, great photograph!
David
I donât know it this has been posted before, but here it is anyway;

Some of the picâs in the 2nd half are on this thread already, but itâs the Vidâ in the first half that might interest some old middle east hands.
Ross.
Really excellent photo, adr. There are a lot of us here who think we were pretty good at roping and sheeting but there were some arab drivers who were dead on.
How I managed to get this picture at 45 degrees I have no idea but it was just such a typical vehicle of that time. Mercedes must have sold thousands of them to the Middle East - almost all in that grey colour and all decorated with pictures on the body. This bloke had a thing about sailing boats by the look of it. Probably looking at them made him feel cool half way down the tapline at mid-summer.
David
Thanks Harry. I donât remember how I managed to mess it up in the first place!
David
how about 45 degrees downhill

Thanks Harry. I donât remember how I managed to mess it up in the first place!David
Better. Itâll go better like that!
David
Hi David,
Odd the way the body is like an explosion in a paint factory, yet the cab is left un-touched!
