Saw this posted on the Richie Thorne thread. Credit to GSOverland as it is one of his, hope you dont mind me re-posting it.

I couldnt help but notice the fuel tank on the DAF. Obviously a custom made job, but I couldnt believe how low it is! Would that have had some sort of guard plate underneath it to protect the underside considering how rough some of the “roads” and trails were back then? A hole in that what have abeen a rather messy, not to mention expensive occurance!! Great pic though.

I recently read someones post that he was experiencing difficulty updating his profile by creating an Avotar but to no avail, (Join the club mate) so being ‘self unemployed’ and having all the time in the world this prompted me to have a bash at it -So i weighed up my assets and concluded that I was reasonably fluent in English and that my M/E experience made me a very patient person, so I decided that I could pis this so I bought up the destructions on the profile page and away I went - Two days and many hours later I gave up, so you lads on here that have succeeded in creating this ‘Simple’ task’ good on ya - Regards to all - Poor old Fred

I’m with you completely on that score Fred, as you’ll see I have the outline of one but I ‘shrunk’ it that much it didn’t exist!!! It’s clearly an age thing with me!!!

Ross.

just tryed it , forget it

I am pleased that I am not alone Ross, I cannot understand why it should be such hassle, I transfer pics to family by email very successfully and I am sure that there are many contributors on this thread who do not display an ‘Avotar’ would like to do so and like us have probably attempted and failed, I wonder if it could be simplified ? I shall keep trying when I have cooled down and have a week or so to spare. Fred

Hi Gents, I managed this, after a bit of swearing. You can do it in “Paint”, but must take care not to:

  1. Make it the wrong size: too big and it won’t work, too small and it will look daft.
  2. Bugger up the resolution, so it looks fuzzy.
  3. Skew the width/height ratio, so it looks like it is in a hall of mirrors.
    Do this:
  4. Open your pic in Paint and save it as something else, EG “My_truck_small”.
  5. The maximum size the site allows is 80x80 pixels, so you want it as close to this size as possible. From the top menu bar in Paint, select Image then Attributes from the list below. Change the Units to pixels. It will say 640 x 400, or something like that. Divide 80 by the larger number, and multiply by 100 to give it as a percentage. In this case, the answer will be 12.5. Knock off the 0.5 to give 12, or whatever your numbers are, because Paint only accepts whole numbers.
  6. Select Image, then Stretch/Skew from the list. Enter the percentage into both the height and width boxes. The picture will shrink. Go back into Image…Attributes again, and the size should be just under 80x80 pixels. Save the file.
  7. Now you are ready to attack the TNUK page where you put the avatar in. Where it asks for the picture, select the option to select from your computer and click Browse. Find out where you have saved it, and click on the file to get it into the box. Job done.

Thanks for that info - I got a result at last but it took hours and patience that was beyond my limits. I reckon I was about 3 or 4 hrs: on Sat and again on Sunday, today (Monday) I decided to have a final go as I would not be beaten and as you can see I got my rewards. Thanks Fred :astonished:

Well done Freddie!

A clue

Hi - i was wondering if any of the early runners on the M/E remember Stevie Smith of Pro-Motors ? what a character, Iv’e met some funny people in my time across the pond but this man had me falling about when I was in his company at the Londra, it was not about jokes but his account of situations - bloody hilarious - some people are so gifted at holding an audience and sending people away in tears. Fred

Nobody told me that they drove on the right
