hi adr fab pic of saramat love to get hold of saramat 89 any idears regards rowland
adr:
Seems to have gone quiet on this thread lately, lets put a few pics on
adr,
Those “piggie back” trailers remind me of the Manchester Liners containers that were used to load copper to and from Canada back in the late 70’s,Manchester docks used to handle them, but later on Runcorn were the handlers[not so far up the “big ditch” I suppose!!
David
Who ever he is he’ll need to be driving that boat good and steady because to my eyes it’s not strapped or attached to that trailer in any way at all And the cradle doesn’t look in the best of condition either!
David

Oh and another thing Freddie! That F12 picture you put up the other day was actually UMU930S which was my old motor. We never had a UMD at Grangewood - the other F12 which Jimmy Conners drove was… er… OK I can’t remember but it wasn’t UMD
God but I hate this getting old business!
David
I used to work with Jimmy Connors at Turners (soham) in their Norwich yard on general haulage in the mid 90’s. Was always fascinated by his talk of working for Grangewoods on ME, although it was difficult to get him talking as he was usually very quiet and kept to himself.
When Turners moved into European haulage, mostly pork to Portugal, they asked Jimmy to start driving for them, but I remember him telling me his missus hid his passport to stop him going Top bloke Jimmy.
That looks like the dock road in Liverpool, it is certainly well stripped
Any stories with that one. I can see an RHA sticker on it

They used to load those Sea Container “Half Heights” from Capper Pass in Melton before they discovered the cancer and radiation risk

No sorry, all it said was the wagon was from Glasgow! How the hell they worked that out I have no idea!
Hard to make out, but if you look in the top picture, in the background is a blue/yellow tilt, to the left as you look there is a yellow F88 & a blue AEC Mandator!
Coo! I REALLY don’t envy those guys!
I seem to recall somewhere, going back a few posts, that SARAMAT had the biggest order for F89s,
but it went a bit pear shaped. To the poster who wanted a SARAMAT Volvo, well, there MAY be a few
lurking about still, but the absolute pain in the bum trying to get it out of Saudi far exceeds its value and
interest. I can understand the interest though!

Hi Rowland,
Sorry meant to reply, as just been said I bet you would probably find there maybe a couple of those old F88s still rolling around, there are a few posting on this thread that still get down that way, maybe they have seen 1 about?

O.K. Don’t want to be Mr. Pedantic here, adr, as you posted up the photo’s, but what were they? F88’s (240 BHP) -the 290’s were U.K./RHD(Excluding Australia…) only ,I believe, or were they F89’s (330BHP) which I had always been led to believe were what SARAMAT ordered…
I doubt there’s much chance of them Saramat 89s being in very good shape if this picture is anything to go by
I got the pic from my good friend Keith the Thief

Top Bloke indeed. I was doubting there whether to say was / is as I have no idea if he is still with us. D!o you know? With us I hope.
But you are right - he didn’t say a lot, Jimmy, which made him a rare asset
David

Hi Mr Pedantic
I have just read through the article & I can’t find anything that says what lump they had in them, all it says was that they were F89s & they had 80 of them, 2 Tugmasters for un-loading the boats,2 breakdown wagons, & 2 Bessima-equipped lorries to load/un-load the 12m containers!
