Seymour is Hugh’s middle name.
Seymour Transport never bought Astran, Carroll and Thompson (directors of Seymour) bought it between themselves as a completely seperate business concern. (Astran just happen’s to share Seymour’s yard as there was space there when the business was aquired).
The Astran curtainsider trailer belongs to Seymour Transport and is liveried in Astran yellow PURELY for advertising purposes, although it has been to Doha on an Astran unit a few times…confused ?
Hope that helps. Ash.
this is a picture of the back of nikos trailer, for the scania fans amongs us, this is a renault magnum, pulling a broken down scania…the shame…lol, to be fair it pulled it no sweat…Fair play to rabbit, nikos dont hang about…
No mate, rabbit was doing an english seller down, nikos came to the rescue in greece with his greek registered magnum.then took rabbit to his house for a few days whilst he arranged for it all to get sorted,in the middle of his summer holiday bless him.
Your dead right Wheel Nut, Spardo ( David Marker) did drive a coach to India on the Hippy Trail back in the sixties although I don’t know how many times he did that. What I found really interesting about him was that he also drove cattle Road Trains for Noel Buntine in the Northern Territory in Australia when it was all dirt roads from Katherine to Wyndham in Western Australia. I do know that the last time that I e-mailed David he was writing a book but that must of been about two years ago. I hope that he is O.K. as he had some very good experiences to share with us.
Regards Steve.
You’re not mixing him up with ‘Sheeter’, also Dave?

Well done Mr Gardner it was Sheeter who drove the coach to India, I have a feeling that he also had some connection with Aus and thats probably why I got the two Davids mixed up .
I am fairly sure that a company called Encounter Overland drove Bedford R.L.'s from London down to Singapore in the seventies and I remember once talking to one of their drivers who was servicing his Bedford K.M. in 1980 in Aydens garage in Istanbul.
And of course we will never forget the the girls on Top Deck Travel who seemed to have a bit of a soft spot for British lorry drivers . You couldn’t miss their orange and cream double deck buses back then could you, they are still going and they appear to be a bit more comfortable now, I spotted this one a couple of months ago while I was waiting for the ferry over to Fraser Island.

Common Links;
Mike Woodman
Bob Paul
Peter Carroll
Hugh Thompson
Astran was NEVER sold to Seymour Transport. Although Hugh Thompson was the original owner of Seymours, he later relinquished control to his partner Peter Carroll. Astran was sold to Peter Carroll and Hugh Thompson who bought it between themselves. Carroll later stepped down to concentrate on Seymour’s while Thompson took overall control of Astran. He is still the owner.
Astran continues to trade as normal and operates from the premises next door to Seymour’s.
Ashley asked this question and answered it himself
BTW: Where does the Seymour name come from?? It is (one of) Hugh Thompson’s middle names.
The company name is; John Seymour Transport Ltd - “Logistics Magicians”
My question; Where does the John come from in the company name? The answer to that is that in the beginning Hugh Thompson had a business partner named John
Evans Transport bought Seymour Transport and the link with Astran is purely as Landlord and Tenant.
Peter Carroll left Seymour in 2010 to concentrate on other interests but still has links to Astran.
Dreva, Go and find another lost cause worthy of your investigative prowess
meanwhile back to Astran, the Middle East (now including) Pakistan thread.
Roger, new balls please.
And for real Astran fans, here is one of the trucks

It wasn’t just a question you asked, you kept pressing the point that there was something to hide. I got the correct information in about 5 minutes, you got your original wrong information from a story in a lorry magazine.
What drink driving has to do with this thread or any other is anyones guess
The picture of the Greek Magnum that I posted was Kevins. astrankev from this forum and from Astran.
The quip about Rabbit and the Polish truck was that it is one of Eddies of Scunthorpe. Eddy is Polish and has operated his own trucks around Lincolnshire for about 30 years.

Yes the stories are true…The cost per 100 litre was 7 Saudi Rial which in the 70’s was 1 GBP. I think I dare say that the Turks spoiled it for all by being over greedy…
brenics77:
would that be the pics ive seen with the massive side tanks on the turk units? and cheers r.d.f. guess thats what the tank farm was all about.
Yes they are the tanks in the pics posted earlier………… The Turks became ridiculous, whilst most of the westerners had their belly tanks which probably varied between 1500 — 2000 litres, the Turks were pulling 5000+ litres out of Saudi and then selling the diesel in Turkey. At times they also had oil drums filled with diesel in the trailer and were heavier coming home (so called empty) than they were going down with their loads.
From our side the belly tanks were not only good for coming back, we had them filled with red diesel in the UK and bonded under a “T Form” through to the German / Czech or Austrian / Yugoslavian border where the “T Form” was cleared and then it was all the way down on the good old claret.
Having said all of that, I remember Mick Chinock used to fill his belly tank with Petrol in Saudi and had a deal going in Greece. That was when we were using the ferry out of Tartous
Our ole mate Sinbin, and others can probably expand on this subject more.
