Not nosy at all. Not in the frozen north like yourself, but in Goteborg in the sunny south.

Fred, your’e a hero! What a great picture - local built Renaults, 2 Guiness bottles crossing the road, it’s all there!

My last ‘Old Grey Matter Test’ won no prizes so try this.

The logo on the door makes it obvious who owned it but what was it and just what job did it, and it’s 3 sisters do?

David

Hi Red

You should know all about camel [zb] you ran up one’s arse as I recall on the Tap Line in Saudi ,was you combing your hair at the time :sunglasses: :sunglasses: ,you might have looked handsome :laughing: :laughing: but the scanie needed much more than a makeover,you can put the pic up if you like .just to give the readers an insite as what not to do when driving a truck

Looking a the state of it, I’d say it’s job was to put folk off of driving it :unamused: :confused:

But seriously, It’s an Oshkosh 6x6 and was used to “drag” trailers across the desert.
Was it you David who told me this story about one of them?;
A “local” worker was driving one of them with a very heavy trailer in tow. WIth so much power under the Oshkosh bonnett, the driver didn’t even realise that as the trailer bounced across the desert, BOTH back axles broke off the chassis so all he was towing was the chassis and body! He couldn’t see a thing behind due to vast amount of dust he was kicking up and just kept going regardless. It was only when he stopped and jumped out, that he saw what had happened!

Thanks David for bringing an old nothing photo to life, hope you are keeping well, be lucky, regards Fred

I found this forum a couple of weeks ago. It really is fantastic!! I started at the beginning and am about half way (page 59). I worked for a time doing Europe, which was almost like a local run for you M/E guys. I have now changed profession, but the diesel is still in the blood :slight_smile: .

Since discovering this forum I have bought a number of books on the subject: Cola Cowboys, Overlanding, Not All Sunshine and Sand, Kamyonistan and of course The Long Haul Pioneers.

Can any of you M/E recommend any others? I have read a few times on here that not all books tell how it really was. The problem is knowing what is truth and what is fiction.

A big thank you to all the M/E drivers for their contributions to the forum.
