i’m sure someone can turn the top pic for me, its beyond my capabilities

Keep em coming Badger  , hopefully Harry might be able to enhance these photos  . ( Just a tip, I always find it better if you scan one photo at a time which makes it easier to edit ) .

I just wondered if the 6th photo was Kapic or Falluja customs in Baghdad  .

it was ankara customs, i had taken 2 jcb’s down and had to deliver them to a building site. when i got there there was no ramp so i stripped the tilt and used the back jcb to dig up a ramp then backed the trailer onto it to unload, then back to the telex for a meal and shower

My dad did some M/E work, last one was for a guy called Colin Copper nice guy didn,t pay him when he got back boy would i like to meet him(last know of in yorkshire running a pub) but anyway he went via Triesta to Syria in 82 got one or two photos. All you guys were so good at what you did back then 70/80 you all get my thanks my dad when he was alive loved it

I should imagine that this one is already on here somewhere, but just found it in an old AEC book I have. Hope you lads dont mind me adding it to your thread.

JOHN

Hi Badger, I think that I should of worded that question differently :frowning: .
What I meant to say was are you sure that the 6th photo is of Kapikule as it reminds me of Falluja.
As you have now stated that it is Ankara customs I can’t remember it ever looking so organised and I can remember on one occasion when I cleared customs on the car park of The Telex Motel which was very handy  .

Not much I can do with these .
LOL just seen somebody else has had a go !

It’s good to see you back on here Harry  .
I think that you had better start giving us some clues Badger . That last photo is bugging me now  could it be Komarno in Czecho and I think that there is one of Giurgu in Rumo somewhere in there and one near that hydro electric dam in Rumania as well  .

Could this be waiting to enter the furniture factory at Caransebes ?

Looks like Caransebes to me.
Dave.

Referring back to the air wipers on the F88 on the previous page, this is the old set-up on one I drove in 75 / 76 wipers still mounted on the top and they used to creep down all the time so had to try and park them at the side.
Good old bad old days.

the picture with the coach being pushed by the passengers was taken in kapikule i was waiting to go into turkey, and the coach was leaving, or trying to. the lower pic was taken in ankara customs, i was parked at the far end to the entrance

Hi there Guys I’d like to ask a question ref. the “Destination Doha” docu- without being morbid but are the four drivers featured still with us? I certainly would hope so and where are they now what are they doing?
I’ve come to this thread quite late so please forgive me if it’s been discussed before but I couldn’t face trawling all 71 pages !
I remember back in the 1980’s my trips to the Middle East in my Mercedes 814 7.5 tonner, Kings Lynn, Ipswich that sort of area (!?)

Do a search on here for a member called Abraham Carshalton  , he has written a bit of history about Astran and the Middle East.

Sadly many of these Gentleman have passed over but they are queuing at a border from where there is no return. There are several on these forums, but the book will be a good read so send Adrian  a PM
