2[attachment=3] Any one recognise any of the trucks, cheers Buzzer.Hi Buzzer, that looks like the back end of a trailer belonging to Jenkinsonâs from Salford, probably mid seventies while loading at the Combiverker in Cologne.
Hi,
Do you mean Edgar? Remember him from the seventies. His chum Dave? Ward had a tea/coffee machine in his truck. He rolled it somewhere in the Middle East.
John.

I seem to remember had one of those âTIRâ in a white circle on a red background trailers, on their artic remember them
The red trailers with " T.I.R." on them were mine on rental in a venture with Merriworth Trailers and probably on rent to Astran in mid-1970âs. I later broke away and operated a number as " TIR Express " but never to Middle East.
Buzzer
Was the guy with the surname Hollands - John Hollands, had a red Ferrari Dino for a while ? I believe he came out to Australia doing long overland runs - he loved long distance driving. I believe there were two John / Jonnie Hollands drove for Astran ?
Regards Hugh
Hi - I knew two Johnnie Holland(s) from the seventies, one worked with me on my time with Grangewoodâs and who lived at Biggin Hill and the other was working for Cantrellâs. Referring to the photo of the back end of a trailer although I agree it could be Jenkinsonâs it could also be Welhams International from Fleetwood, perhaps we will never know but well done with the photoâs they bring back good memories keep them coming . regards Fred
Fred wrote - In response to Buzzerâs mention of Barry Titterell he came from somewhere in Kent and I recall him doing a bit of work for Grangewoodâs in the late 70âs with a Transcon , Am I right ? there canât be two persons with that name surely, regards
Hi Freshir
Youâre right !
Barry Titterall ran out of East End London but lived in Yalding, Kent and ran a bit close to the wind in many ways

Sounds like a story that needs to be told!

Does John West or Guesty or anybody else remember a firm from Burnley called Ashworthâs who also ran down to the Middle East in the seventies.
The name Ashworths rings a vague bell, mushroomman, but I canât picture the wagons. The ME company I remember from that area was Howlan International.

Mike, way back on the thread you put some photoâs up including Ashworthâs and Barry Longden in front of his truck when we were snowed up for four days at Imranli for four days during the winter of 76/77â so if anyone has the time and patience go back this side of page 68âish I also think that Billy Hamm was there as well (Bionic Bill)

Hi Fred, I hope that you are well. Which Mike was it who put the Ashworthâs and Barry Longden photo at Imranli on here as I must of missed them.
Hopefully, who ever posted it will stick it on again so that I can send Barry a copy for Christmas with their permission. It was Barry who told me that he worked for Ashworthâs before he worked for Jenkinson but unfortunately he has no pictures of any of their wagons so I shall reshow an old photo of one of the D.A.F.'s that he drove for Jenkies.
CONFESION
What an old plonka I am , I was getting mixed up with Ashworthâs and Jenkinsonâs sorry Mike, As a matter of interest I spoke with Barry recently and he is ticking along ok, and hoping that you are keeping well as like myself I have not been on the thread recently, be lucky, regards Fred

Brit European did some of that beef as well.
I met Arthur Sproson, (Sprowie, RIP) in the âNationalâ one time and he told me he was returning from Rumo after transshiping beef onto Russian trucks. I was surprised to see Arthur that far from home!
When Chapman and Ball hit the buffers, Jenkinsons took up what was left including some of us drivers. I did a couple of trips to Poland in one of these DAFs, but spent more time at home waiting for a phone call than actually working so I jacked it.
Billy Hamm RIP, was sitting at home apparently âInjuredâ awaiting an insurance payout from C & Bâs insurance company. That never arrived.
I was not out of work for long as Jack Corrie RIP and Jeff Litwin started up Litcor Interntional.

I remember going through Rumo once with Alan Morrey when he stopped to talk to one of his mates driving for Moorlockâs from Stoke coming the other way. The U.K. had only just joined the E.E.C. so it must of been about 1981/2 when the E.E.C. had a big wine lake, milk lake and a meat mountain. The farmers were allegedly highly subsidised and the powers that be in Brussels thought that for some reason it would be better to sell it to a non E.E.C. country and make a loss rather than sell it to an E.E.C. member. The result being that it was all sent to The Commie Block. I remember meeting one of Grangewoodâs a couple of weeks later on that big parking area at the top of the hill just east of Sibiu. We had a brew together and he told me that he had seen the invoices and The Russians had bought the meat for a ridiculous price something like seven or twelve pence a kilo.
He also confirmed what the Moorlockâs driver had told us that the meat was being transhipped straight on to Sovietrans and Romtrans trucks and then heading off to Afghanistan where The Russians were fighting The Taliban who were being backed by The Americans at the time.
I canât remember hearing anything about it on the news but it has also just reminded me that the big parking area near Sibiu was also a place where at night you could sometimes get a signal for The B.B.C. World Service which was broadcast from Cyprus before it got jammed by Radio Tirane from Albania.

Interesting story, amazing how a mention of a situation opens up a wealth of memories eh ? keep digging regards Fred

John Jones went to Brit European after C & B. I last saw him at Jackâs funeral about 4 years ago.
The tipper firm, Halcyon Haulage moved into pallet logistics which it still does but itâs not half the firm it was when Jack was at the helm.
