Some good pics there Robert. With regard to the Birdales Scania at Rawalpindi Railway Station, there was a site a while back that had quite a few snaps obviously taken at the same time as that one. Cant for the life of me think what it was now, maybe “Old TIR” page on FB.
Thanks for the lead on ‘Old TIR’ on FB, Bullitt! It caused me to find an excellent picture of a VIJORE ERF NGC in the desert, which I have posted on the ‘ERF European 1975’ thread. Cheers! Robert

I couldn’t find the data sheets. Never mind, by coincidence I have been looking at their Middle-East drivers’ forum: it is fantastic - about 170 pages of fabulous '70s & '80s Middle-East Run pictures.

Hi Robert, I was very interested to see your pic of PIE of Southall, I was very pally with Micky Maunders in our M/E days, I have not seen them mentioned before on the thread and it certainly raised fond memories, thanks, regards Fred
Fred if you do a search for member “Rattlesnake Dave”, he worked for P.I.E for a while,
and posted some photos, also did a diary of one trip from Italy to Denmark.
His posts where back in 2005 so i don’t know how i remembered that far back
I’d put a link but can’t remember how to do that. :lol

I am in touch with “Rattlesnake Dave” occasionally. I believe that when he drove for P.I.E. he was only on the European side of their operations.

The recent news that Karl Skilton is having this beast fitted with a 13-speed Fuller 'box fills me with enormous glee! There’s something very attractive about the combination of the big Scania V8 and a Fuller to stir it with.
This must be an Astran subbies’ thing: back in the late '90s I parked up next to John Allen with his Astran Scania on the docks in Tangiers waiting to ship back to Spain. His Scania was a 142, but like Karl’s it had an Estepe roof and a 13-speed Fuller. History repeating, and quite right too! Robert
Thanks! The riskiest thing was my decision not to choose those stereotype concrete one-storey Arab buildings used in war-game models. Having travelled widely throughout the Arab world, I can vouch for an abundance of European-colonial architecture. There’s plenty to be found in Damascus, Aleppo, Beirut, Jerusalem, Cairo, Alexandria, Tunis, Tripoli, Benghazi, Algiers, Casablanca and Tangier - just to start with! So using just the facades of Euro-buildings meant that not only could I save space, but it also necessitated the removal of any pitched roofs - after all, much Euro-colonial architecture in the Middle-East is only European buildings with flat roofs. Just a thought! Cheers. Robert

Hi all.ERF. When i worked for Fransens [after Afghan int stopped] i was the last on to have an F10 as they used to keep saying ‘‘Yes,but you old ME men can keep an old F88 truck going so you save us money’’ Klootzakken.
Hi Mike, I recall a Fransen driver who was standing on his bumper cleaning his window and he slipped and tore his finger off on the wiper blade assembly, yuck. It was in Belgium when I was doing multi drops with fish and we were awaiting clearance. wondered if you may have know of this accident ?
