If you want to see more pics of Iranian CCC Nahangs, Adr, I put several on the Fantasy Fleet thread, including that b&w one! Robert

Herewith two pictures, a Fransen (VGL-group) Volvo as well as a Turkish DAF FTS2800 for the M/E
pictured at the entrance of the DAF-factory near the HQ. Both pictures are from 1980

Note the set-back of the trailer-axles on the Turkish DAF-combination

Hi all.ERF. When i worked for Fransens [after Afghan int stopped] i was the last on to have an F10 as they used to keep saying ‘‘Yes,but you old ME men can keep an old F88 truck going so you save us money’’ Klootzakken.

Hi Robert, thanks for that I will take a look. Not been on here much lately been a busy period, so trying to catch up but there are so many threads now & a lot of new faces on line, which is great, it takes a while to get through them. Regards Chris

This weeks cm as got a few pages about a astrans scania if anyone is interested

Cheers, Seth70! Will Shiers has produced a damned good article there with lots of pics (Commercial Motor 16th Oct '14). There is a fair amount of current discussion about that vehicle on the ‘Lorries with 13-speed Fullers’ thread because that Astran Scania 143:450’s owner, Karl Skilton, is having it re-fitted with a 13-speed Fuller.
I remember parking up next to John Allen on Tangier docks with his Astran Scania 142 (with an Estepe roof, as Karl’s has) and that had a 13-speed Fuller too. Long live Astran Scania’s with proper gearboxes!!! Robert

Hi Robert, I was very interested to see your pic of PIE of Southall, I was very pally with Micky Maunders in our M/E days, I have not seen them mentioned before on the thread and it certainly raised fond memories, thanks, regards Fred

Mickey Maunders and I worked at Chapman and Ball until they folded, in '78 or '79 then he and a John Wischussen started up some venture and asked me to join them. I didn’t trust this Wischusson bloke so I declined, just as well I think as the venture didn’t work out, I got a job working for SI instead!
Nice fella was Mickey, what’s he doing now?

Great pictures! I’ve often wondered over the years what gearbox those MANAS (Turkish MAN) units had in them: anyone know? Robert

Have a look in here:
baumaschinenbilder.de/forum/ … r=0&page=1
There are some data-sheets in between, too.

Regards

I couldn’t find the data sheets. Never mind, by coincidence I have been looking at their Middle-East drivers’ forum: it is fantastic - about 170 pages of fabulous '70s & '80s Middle-East Run pictures.

Here is the link: baumaschinenbilder.de/forum/ … 0&page=139

There are loads of Astran photos on there too: here a couple of samples. Robert

I also found some P.I.E. pics on there, a company recently discussed on this page. Here are some sample photos. Robert

I also found some evocative pics on the Baumaschinenbilder.de site, which I reproduce for you here. Robert

The first one is very typical of urban parking whilst waiting to re-load.

The second reminds us of the joy of tilts!

And the third reminds us of the satisfaction of arrival

I posted some of their pics a year or two ago Robert, I asked one of their admins and he said copy away, it’s a fantastic site :sunglasses:

That’s good news! Robert

Some good pics there Robert. With regard to the Birdales Scania at Rawalpindi Railway Station, there was a site a while back that had quite a few snaps obviously taken at the same time as that one. Cant for the life of me think what it was now, maybe “Old TIR” page on FB.

Fred if you do a search for member “Rattlesnake Dave”, he worked for P.I.E for a while,

and posted some photos, also did a diary of one trip from Italy to Denmark.

His posts where back in 2005 so i don’t know how i remembered that far back

I’d put a link but can’t remember how to do that. :unamused: :unamused:
