Hi,will try again,in 1969 I met a few of Rynarts drivers in Turkey on the way to Pakistan, but dont remember any having containers on them,so it might be that the photos were later, all the drivers were Dutch then, there was also a Swiss firm doing the same run,I was offered a job with them but was unable to get a Swiss work permit,I was told the 2 brothers who owned Rynard was looking for English drivers but in those days there were not many English drivers doing the job apart from Asian Transport.2 years ago I was in Harwich Docks and there was some Rynards units parked up all East European drivers no English spoken, are they still going? Terry
There used to be 2 Rynarts companies. Rynart Trading and Rynard Transport, both companies are linked but I don’t have details. I used to see some of the Polish subbies on the China Border run, many of the drivers are from the eastern bloc and farther afield as well. They had a tendency to hire driver form countries close to the delivery destination as these were usually the places the unforscene circumstances arose, and a driver with a bit of local knowledge and local language usually got on a bit better.
It was often a lot easier for Muslim drivers to through than guys from Western Europe. They were doing a lot of supplies to Afghanistan from Holland for the U.S. forces. and going down the back way through Kaz,Uzbekistan. There’s a thread on Top Run from a few years back…

I can see Taci Koçman’s office on there!
The week between Christmas and New Year it was very windy here and one of my storage sheds blew into the river leaving a trail of stuff behind it. It took my wife, son and I the rest of the day to sort things out. However I did find a box of stuff at the back of it that had been sealed in Britain before I left many years ago and there were a few photos in it. Alas it didn’t contain my old passports and carnets.
Who remembers this crew of Iranian drivers, many drivers used to give then a wide berth but I got on all right with them as I used to see them in places other than Italy.
They used to park on the service round the Tangencalli round Milano where they would be parked often for a couple of weeks at a time.
Once they had stripped and rebuilt their engines, gear boxes and diffs they used to play volly ball to pass the time.
I think we know where this is going…
The guy the the blue top and the guy holding the ball were later taken on by Trans Mondo and then did all the Muscat work. On the way back they got the ferry from the UAE to Bandar Abbas and reloaded out of Esfahan.
One of the same crew just north of Ankara…

“Its my ball and ime going home” !!

Hello Fred, our old mate Barry Longden phoned me up a couple of weeks ago and I am sure that you will be glad to know that he and Val are both very well.
There used to be a couple of good fish restaurants on that old Galata Bridge, wasn’t it made of wood and burnt down sometime in the nineties.
A freshly caught fish on some fresh Turkish bread washed down with a cold Efes always made a good lunch.
All the drivers would give out a loud cheer when the boat rocked about spilling the hot oil onto the fire shooting flames all over the place.
I.I.R.C. Taci Kochman’s office was on the sea front near the Port Customs Hall where you could buy duty free goods when you showed them your passport. It was behind where the white cruise ship is on the right.
The view taken from Taci’s office window.
Happy 73rd birthday for tomorrow Terry Smith.
Hi Steve, Thanks for the info re: Barry, I get mail regularly from Val as she is the computer in chief as you know, I spoke with him over Christmas. I never knew that the Galata Bridge had burnt down. as for Taci well what a kind and thoughtful man - he offered to take my wife on a tour of the city while I was tipping - yeah rite - he had more chance of getting s–t from a rocking horse. Some interesting photo’s showing up recently keep e’m coming lads. all the breast Steve
regards Fred
Hi Fred, do you remember Taci’s right hand man The Colonel, what a gentleman he was. He would always phone The Chai boy downstairs who would come with his tray full of little glasses of tea for the drivers.
I saw this photo of a Concorde truck somewhere on the site and I wondered if it was yours Fred.
Regards Steve.
Amazing photo that Steve, that was obviously one of Concord’s domestic veh’s and I immediately recognised it as being John Couchlin’s and dear old John (RIP) did like a bit of ‘Bling’, he used to do a lot of quickies to Europe, fond memories - Yes I knew of the ‘Colonel’ did you know that he always carried a pistol in his bag ? I don’t recognise where that pic was taken and I would be interested to know - I will send an e’mail to JC’S son Tony as I know that he will be chuffed to see his dad’s truck on the thread .Regards - Fred

Looks like Dover to me?
Your right there Harry of course - over against the wall in the import parking area - well done that man Fred
Taci Koçman’s office address was:
Karakoy,Rihtim Caddesi,
Veli Alemdar,
Han Kat 9,
No.909.
I well remember going up to the 9th floor in that creaking lift.
Whatever happened to Taci?
Is he still in business?
There was not much that moved in Turkey that Taci was not involved in.
And you’re correct about the Colonel,an absolute gent.
