Just had another brew on the way to Terhan

Some brilliant pic’s lads - well worth a thank-you and certainly brings back memories. I knew of an incident on the Volos ferry when one of the lads had a touch of the wind and then decided to put a match up his rear and create a flame to the laughter of those who prompted him as it done a bit more damage than he expected, he was walking funny for a week after - I think we call it crabbing in the trade. He will know who I am referring too as he is a regular contributor on this thread, What was the woman’s name who worked on the ‘Scandinavia’ ? she was friendly with a Brian who I think drove for Cantrel’s and they got together and settled down in Denmark, he originally lived in Camberwell Sth: London - where his partner kept phoning me at home asking if I could help trace him - ooop’s. I know nutting
Hope there are more interesting pic’s to come, brilliant.
Fred

Great to see some fresh new pics on the thread! Good stuff!! As an observation, that top tank across the rear of the unit in the first pic looks scarily close to the bottom of the trailer given some of the rough terrain you chaps had to cross!

Great pics though and MORE please!!

Waiting for the ferry at Ostende 1980 . I seem to remember I was taking this machine to Rhymney /Rhumney in Welsh Wales

Have been having some issues with Posting photo’s same old story. Forgotten how it’s done. I am seeing how it goes with this one…

Just leaving Adana heading for Baghdad.

Londra Camping 1982

I often wondered what it would be like to be a tourist on the Bosphorus as I drove over it, then 30 years later…I’ts my turn to be the tourist.

Here’s a photo of the pudding shop in Sultanahmet taken last year, it hasn’t changed at all.

Many of us had a Hatcher top tank in the early days,we had them on our F88’s.
On my first trip out, loading the train in Cologne goods yard, there were twin brothers sharing a Barreros Dodge,(Yuk!),fitted with a Hatcher top tank.
When the truck went up the ramp, the trailer crushed the top tank and lost all the diesel.
The twins were hopping mad and saying they could not be expected to design their truck around the German rail system,er ?
I never saw them again, one trip wonders I suspect.

As you say BB,the two guys in question were called Twin T’s transport. They were the Tucker Twins,Tommy and Terry  .I was in Astrans yard when they came in all proud of their ‘‘Spanish Dodge’’ saying it was the ‘‘bees knees’’ for the ‘‘long haul’’.As i remember it was a ‘‘one hit wonder’’.I never saw them again.Mike

Anther pic taken at Pauline’s place at Golling.

That is 1 smart looking Merc, I do like it.

Correct saltiel and Klunk, the first guy on the left is indeed Peter The Plater but do you know the name of the guy sat next to him who also drove for Hick’s in the early eighties, his first name was Dennis.

Yes,Dennis McCarthy.
He is an Irishman, was in Pireaus with him a few times.Good company.

Pauline’s place again,different season,different firm.

Getting off the train at Ludwigsburg,(That’s before it was extended to run to Munich).

Securing your truck with the steel wedges caused some bosted fingers and broken finger nails!
