Assessment?

I’m going for a driver assessment at a company for a class 2 job.
Does anyone know what’s involved?
As I have not driven since passing my test 4 months ago.

depends on the company …
could be multi choice written assessment followed by a drive in a truck to see your ability’s reversing on a loading bay etc

Often includes basic test on knowledge of the regs then a vehicle check with an on-road drive looking at whether you can drive it safely

Tachograph rules test.
Walk around pre-trip safety checks.
Check;wheel nuts.
Lights working.
Horn working.
Wash bottle for windscreen.
Seat belt condition.
Oil/ water levels.
Some dipsticks for oil are shown on the dash.Electronicaly.
Tyre condition.No wire showing.Tread condition.
O licence valid.
Tax disc valid.
Google the firm and quote facts and figures,it shows you have taken an interest in their firm.
Road rest drive around the block.
Relax,have fun.

Thanks everyone.
The company is Palmer & Harvey in Hemel anyone have any advise.

any ideas on questions on regs?

any ideas on questions on regs?

Basic ones usually like how many hours drive before a break is due and how long must that break be

How many hours can you drive in one week - how many in any two weeks

how long is a regular weekly rest - what can it be reduced to
Ditto with daily rest

Those sort of things …

Google the DVSA or VOSA tachograph rules.
Working time directive and RTD rules.

Probably a quick check on whether you’re alive then.

They may possibly ask you to park as badly as possible, to hold loads of folk up, maybe even perpendicular over some fuel pumps. They have a reputation to maintain

So that’s what I might have been doing wrong…lol

When I went for a driving assessment a while back, think I must have ticked off the driver / trainer… He handed me the keys to go for a run around and I refused to move the truck until Id been and carried out my checks…Kept telling me its Ok you don’t have to do that… but I got funny and told him its my licence…not yours or your companies…

Maybe I didn’t get offered the job but who needs to work for a company with ppl that like cutting corners

Am I right in thinking I still need to use my digital card?
The thing is I have never used it before.

Thanks for all the good advise.

Well done for standing your ground, you invest a lot of money, time and effort acquiring your licence.

YES - there is no exemption for an assessment so that time cannot be used as rest for the regs

I have passed my drive assessment.
No questions on regs.
They showed me how to use the tachograph.
Had interview after.
Everything was okay, except my lack of experience. But they knew this before I went there.

So now it is the waiting game to find out.

Thanks for all the advise.

Did you use your digicard for the assessment?

Have you or will you be doing any other sort of work during this fixed week?

Yes I did use my digi card.
I work in an office 9-5.

valks1:
Yes I did use my digi card.
I work in an office 9-5.

Legally the office work should be officially recorded and the easiest way to do that is to use separate analogue card for each day with name date start and finish times
Those can be binned after 29 calendar days

If never likely to get pulled over in the next 5 weeks then its pointless doing those cards

Good news I have been offered the job !

It just shows that doing the ground work is worth it and asking Q’s on this forum is a great source and worth its weight in Gold…Well done.

Yes could not agree more.
It is so handy being able to ask advice from people actually doing the job.

Highly recommend.
