I currently drive long distance coaches. But I have a driving assessment for a haulage firm. Question is do I need to put digi card into tachograph machine on the truck
Assuming the lorry has a digital tachograph then I’m afraid that legally you do need to use your driver card.
Simple answer is YES a card or tacho disc should be used when you go out on the road.
Plus the fact it shows the Assessor you know how to use a tacho
What happens if the driver doing the assessment has ‘temporarily’ mislaid their digicard?

Well in our case he would be shown the door and i mean the way out, but i did have an assessment once with another well known chilled company and they said just do a print out so always worth asking the question.
Thanks for the replies guys. So I’m guessing when my current employer analyses my card they’ll see I’ve been for an assessment.

YUP - and that time cannot be used as rest
Seeing you’ve been for an assessment might actually work in your favour if your reason for jumping is pay/conditions.
“Are you looking for another job?”
“Yeah because the pay is crap.”
In the current climate it could end up with a pay increase.

I agree…no company can stop you from job-hunting for whatever reason - better pay, fancy a change… it’s up to you.
I once asked my boss to cover me, as he was the only person available to do it - he asked why I needed time off, my reply: “I’ve got a job interview…I’m not going to lie to you & say I’m at the doctor’s or something. One day I may need time off for the doctor’s - but not this time!!!” Oh, ok - he said, I’ll cover you!!!
P.S. - I didn’t get the job OR a pay rise - but don’t let that put you off!!!
I’m just wanting away from buses. Need a new challenge
Your company will be able to see registration and make of the truck from a tacho download but that’s if they notice which I doubt unless they where really ■■■■. Personally speaking from what I’ve observed companies tend not to trudge through tacho records unless a driving time or wtd infringement gets flagged by analysis.

I thought you were moving your friends hgv horsebox for him
If you go for an interview, and your bosses spot you drove not their lorry , can they find out who’s lorry it is and how?

don’t think he could… only VOSA could I’d think. the operators number is on the down load as it goes to the company soft ware. vosa can pull up the data with their equipment with out going to company premises…well thats what i thought.

I believe that’s correct, from the tachograph download I think your company could only see the registration number of the vehicle you drove, but whether or not there’s some other way of checking who owns a vehicle I’ve no idea, I’m not aware of a way but …
The only way your boss would see the name of the company who you drove for would be if for some reason you inserted the company card instead of your driver card, though I can’t imagine under what circumstances that would happen.

When I went for a speculative job interview once I got taken out for a drive, a week later I got called into the office to explain why I’d driven a non-company vehicle. The system (tachomaster) had automatically flagged it up. Thankfully my boss was understanding, but I bet theres plenty who would be funny about it.
I had the same experience as Rob, got called to the office to explain why I had driven a non company vehicle.
I know they can easily find this out, the question is, can they somehow find out who’s vehicle it was?

Not easily & to be honest i’d be concerned if my boss went to the effort to find out. It’d be borderline stalking in my eyes, it shouldn’t be of any considerable interest to them.
Thanks for the replies guys, I went for the assessment but something happened and they never had a spare truck so got to go back up next week
