That’s the way it is these days doze, the 3 Bs take priority and precedence over substance
Bullcrap.
■■■■■■■■. and.
Box ticking.
Dcpc, pseudo health and safety, compliance managers and other non job officialdom held by those who know the far end of f. all about the job in real terms, …but are all on more money than the likes of us.
Welcome to the world of modern road transport.
I got there at 6 rob thinking I’d be gone by 7 , my will to live had gone by 12 , it’s no wonder the other 2 drivers didn’t turn up , they must of been for warned .
I thought stobarts were ■■■■ but this was on another level

were clever
were competent
wanted to work
were responsible
weren’t brain-dead
didn’t need to be nursed
knew how to get from A to B to C to etc without a phone, or their hand held
I could go on for pages and pages , but nowadays it’s …
… I’ll let you figure it out !

ROFLMAO.
Yeah right…
By clever you mean they worked out how to fiddle tachographs. They were so responsible that tachographs were brought in to replace logbooks because drivers couldn’t be trusted not to run bent. Same for speed limiters too. There were plenty of braindead knuckle draggers back then too and many of them needed their hands holding too.
Average age of the truck driver in the UK is 55 years old, loads are in their 60s. Much of what we have today in regards of enforcement, monitoring and the H&S stuff is as a result of three or more decades of their incompetence.
Perhaps you should take off those rose tinted glasses, they’re lying to you.

It suggests either you’re involved in highly specialist work, or you’re working for a company that will turn out to be an over-bureaucratic dud!

Probably the latter. Iceland at Enfield was a 3 day assessment and induction when I worked there in 2003
Its all a case of covering their “arse” when something goes wrong, like you where shown or told at your assessment
Dozy thought you was off to Spain to live at some point
Asda is typically 6-8hrs for an agency induction depending on wether you can bite your lip and not ask questions, the more you speak the longer it lasts. Even though theses day your not guaranteed you’ll be paid for the time spent doing it either. My last assessment (B&Q) was 3-4hrs and I got paid for it only after completing 10 shifts
Welcome to the world of the limpers

One of the first question was a map of uk , southwest , Wales , Scotland , Norfolk , north west etc, etc , you had to put edinburgh , Norwich , Liverpool etc into correct area , there were 5 pages like this , then about 10 questions on where the tir cords were stored , I’m not sure you had to be clever
A few years back now, i’d already done a few shifts for Asda, but they wanted agency drivers to be assessed and issued with a green card…as much for their excellent two position fifth wheel cab controlled operation as anything.
The training/induction was done by decent old school drivers who didn’t ■■■■ about ticking boxes, lasted a morning, they then gave you a local/medium run so you got paid all the way through making it a decent day worth the travel, fair process.
A couple of the bods in the batch of us as i recall didn’t want to cover those local runs after the training and went off home, whether they still got the green cards or got paid for the 4 or so hours involved i don’t know.

How do you mean…Where TIR cords are ‘stored’ btw?

Answers were back of trailer , side of trailer , headboard , I put headboard 10 times rob , as for sat nav you have to hand it to t/o when you start , then they put a sticker on it and then you can use it I kid you not !
I just want to drive a lorry and deliver some goods rob , the strange thing is I did some agency at this place 15 yrs + and it was nothing like this
This lot I’m working for now , throw you keys and that’s it

Ah…
The old ‘Asda Green Card’.
Agency: You need to get the Asda green card to work at Normy now
Me: What’s that all about?
Agency:8 hour induction course.
Me: For 8 hours pay?
Agency: We’re negotiating that with them right now.
Me:Forget it then.
Agency:But you can’t drive there without it!
Me:Don’t put me in there then.
Six months later start of the Xmas rush.
Agency: Can you do ADC and CDC out of Normy for the next few weeks?
Me:Nope.
Agency:Why not?
Me:I don’t have a green card.
Ageny:Oh right, they’ve ok’d drivers over Xmas to go in without one.
Me:Usual 18.00 start time?
Agency:Ta.

Tesco the same. You absolutely must, no exceptions, have a Tesco “passport” to be able to drive for them on agency.
Unless they’re in the brown stuff at peak.
