Assessment at ASDA Washington - Advice please

Hi all,

Got a call from the agency today to go for an assessment tomorrow. Whilst this is good news, I’m a bit concerned about putting it on the bay with not doing it before.

Apparently it’s at the Frozen depot which I’m not sure which one that is so I’ll have to go early.

Anyone been there and any advice?

Was told only do a reverse onto a bay and a couple/uncouple and the rest is all paperwork. Lasts 2-3 hours, that’s a lot of paper work.

i think the frozen depot is down by scania, if you have to put it on a bay thers plenty of room & it shudnt cause you many if any problems getting onto it.

I don’t know the place your referring to but it would be unusual and a bit pointless I would have thought for the assessment not to include a drive.

On assessments I’ve done the drive usually lasts for about 30 minutes to an hour.

when i went for my green card ( as its called ) the assessment was 8 boring long hours.

Green card, that’s the one I’m going for tomorrow. I found it odd her saying no driving.

As long as there’s a bit of room hopefully I’ll be ok with a shunt or two.

Any idea what all the paperwork is for? Is it their health and safty etc or tacho, WTD questions?

that will have been the INDUCTION not the assessment,i did the same at asda at normanton, bored ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ did a drive though, just put a trailer on a bay

It’s the putting the trailer on the bay that I’m concerned about with me being new and all that.

Hoping all goes well.

Dont worry about it-theres acres of room at the chill!

And the canteen grub is excellent too…

There is plenty of room at the all the ASDA in Washington the 1 you want is the furthest away from the 1231 at the bottom

Go on then how did it go? Hope the bay stayed still for you.

Gutted :frowning:

Took too many shunts so got turned away :frowning:

Explained to bloke I was new, he said looked like I was doing ok but just need some experience as they are strict for who they take on. That’s what I keep being told (get some experience) but no one is willing to give me a chance to get any.

Wouldnt care, I was only about 2 inches away from getting it in early but had to take a shunt and then it went ■■■■ up so had to take another one to get it in :frowning:

Sorry to hear that man, but you’ll do better next time.

chin up

Sorry mate its hard to get a break in this job. Maybe next time it might be worth getting a bit of practice in with a training company before you go to an assessment, I know you feel you’ve earned your cards but the real learning starts after you get your drive.

I got good experience from getting agency work shunting at Honda in Swindon, I was probably losing money from the distance I had to travel, but, it meant that when I went for my first proper job I was ok at getting on to bays I and every other trucker out there, (except, I expect Carryfast ) still has days when the bloody bays wont stay still.

Don’t let it get you down, just try again when you get the chance.

Edited cause the first bracket was in the wrong place, like some bays

Goddammit!!! had to move another bracket thats three bloody shunts, is that a fail?

Is Greggs the bakers still / is / was taking on drivers?? Heard this week they need loads of staff for when the new extension at Baliol Business Park, Benton opens.

Rumour factory says over £10 an hour, various shifts, 2 bonuses a year and discount in their outlets.

Are they worth a look??

Will have a look into that, cheers.
