Assesment!!!

Hey guys,

been apply and sending out cv’s to all manor of companies.

And Saturday I got called by the MD of Nicholls Transport, told him about my class 2 experience and my little to no class 1 experience, didn’t seem to bother him and I’ve bagged myself an Assesment tomorrow at the Bardon depot!

Anyone work for them or what the Assesment entails?!

Cheers

Drew

Depends whether their assessment is way of a test or just to make sure you’re not a raving lunatic. Either way, be prudent. If you’re not sure about something then ask them.

Judging by the conversation you’ve already had with them, it doesn’t seem like they’d treat you any different than any other driver in way of barriers etc.

I’ve got an assessment tomorrow (another company) i’ve been told to prepare to be asked for a full walkround, checking trailer mot cert as well, followed by an uncouple/couple (switching engine off when not required etc) followed by a drive to include a town centre, then finish off with a reverse onto a bay!

Hope this helps and the very best of luck to you bud

Best of luck to both of you.

Got the job

Start 31st May with an induction day then off tramping from 3rd June…well pleased

Good Man. Tramping isn’t for everyone but you’ll son get into it.

A diary would be great once you have settled a bit.

assessment went well, nothing wrong with my driving.

First time actually driving an artic and it showed, but thats only because I learnt in a wagon n drag.

I will have to go to Nicholls transport main depot to do a weeks worth of training and only then after will I be told if I’ve made the grade or not.

The standards are very very high.

Did get to drive a 13 plate Iveco Stralis tho! things like a house on wheels!

If they were aware of your newbie status and still asked you for assessment, they won’t be looking for an experienced drive. Just a safe drive.

Let us know how the training week goes.

Are they paying you for the week?

Well done both of you guys for getting assessments , now go nail those jobs! ! , good luck both

Thanks.

Well done Drew. As Dar said…are they paying you for the training week? Seems to me they have a blank canvas with you!

Dar, my tramping is 2-3 nights out a week with weekend off, hauling chilled and frozen to RDC’s etc…not far from you actually!

Iveco are ■■■■ trucks, wait til you get to drive a proper one 1day…

unfortunately my assessment was unsuccessful, the don’t want a complete n00b unfortunately and are looking for someone with a year or so experience :frowning:

Why the Hell get you in, knowing you’ve got less experience than they want, then tell you no, they want someone with a year or more experience?

Once again employers taking the ■■■■ because they can.

When I was a noob I did night agency work, less stuff to crash into, mostly trunking and you’ll earn a bit better.

What are you saying■■? Is an experienced drive not a safe drive? Thinking about it you could be correct in some cases!!!

thats awful ■■■■■■ they knew your level on experience when they took you in for the assesment drive, and the 1st hour in a new wagon is always going to be the clumsiest,
had an interview with an agency myself over here, had the job got and signed the contract, was over the moon, got a phone call 5mins after i left to say they didnt realise i was only 23 and had to be 25 for insurance, yet my c.v had my date of birth in BOLD CAPITALS on the first page.
