A lorry hit a garden wall before overturning and spilling its load of asparagus across the road, police said.
The crash on the A259 in Chichester, West Sussex, led to the closure of the road.
The vehicle was being escorted along the A27 to Shoreham after the crash, prompting warnings of further disruption.
The driver was taken to hospital but not seriously injured. Police said no arrests had been made.
BBC travel reports said the A259 Bognor Road was likely to be closed in both directions until the afternoon, with no access in or out of Chichester via the Bognor Road roundabout.
Not to mention the local wildlife is going to have a feast, downside being their wee is going to stink… Bognor Road best avoided as it will live up to its name for days.
