Slackbladder:
ASDA in Washington used to be run by Wincanton for the first 10 years, then they took it over themselves in 2002. All 3 depots, chilled, ambient & George are now run by ASDA. Having had a 6 year break and going back with an agency I found some of the agency lads had been going every week for 4 to 5 years and never been offered a job.
It’s the easiest job ever if you are prepared to sit around for long stretches.
I’ve just finished on containers, sitting around is what I do
I’ve just finished on containers, sitting around is what I do.
Then it’s the job for you. A typical shift consisted of 1500 start. Job at 1630. Veh checks and pick up trailer. Out of yard by 1700. Arrive store 1715, boldon store. 4 ASDA VHS in front. Tipped by 2200. Back to depot 2215. Take a break. Repeat . Go home.
Due to H&S issues the majority of stores use the scissor lifts now. You put it on the bay and pump truck the pallets onto the lift. It’s your responsibility until the loaded lift is dropped to the floor. Usually get 8 pallets on a lift so it’s at least an hour tipping.

Muckaway:
What’s the difference between an ordinary ASDA employee, and an ASDA ACE?
Asda ACES are the cleaners.
Calling them “ACES” and giving them bright green fleece jackets seems a bit of a pi55take

Asda to create 5,000 jobs in 2012 The new jobs will come as part of Asda’s £500m expansion plans
Supermarket chain Asda has announced plans to open 25 new stores and three depots, creating 5,000 jobs this year.
There will be a new depot in Rochdale, an existing one in Falkirk will be replaced and one in South Elmsall in Yorkshire, which was bought from Netto, will be revamped.
A touch disingenuous of Asda. The depot at Falkirk is a replacement for the existing one and the depot at South Elmsall is at present being revamped and will reopen on Feb 19 as a replacement for the X-Dock at Redhouse, Doncaster. (The X-Dock will then be rented by Next).
The new one at Rochdale, which could arguably be a replacement for Wigan, is the one I don’t understand. As Normanton cover stores from Burnley to Stockport I would have thought any new depot would have been better sited somewhere between Haydock and the M56.
