Artic drivers and their

I’ve heard all the old stories about how they drag a forty foot trailer etc and where they can manouvre it blah blah blah…

What I do find amazing though is how so many of those big rigs are only 6 feet 6 inches wide :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Yesterday on the M60/M62 through the roadworks in my 75E15 which is just over 8 feet wide I must have been overtaken by 20 of the 6 foot 6 inch wide artics. Confused about feet and inches / pounds and shillings / metres and centimetres are we chaps ( and of course chapesses )

Wondered what you were on about for a minute there but I digress …

GUILTY :open_mouth:

It’s like all these vehicles I see motoring in lane 3 with a trailer on the back - do they forget its there?

Calv

Calv - thats just Rob K when he’s late for a delivery (which is most of the time!)

Basicly willy its like this

The highway code and everything in it are just suggestions they only become law when the police stop you and tell you so  :open_mouth:

The problem is that cars drivers won’t do 50mph along there. They do 85 until the cones start then 60 when they see the speed camera, then brake to 30 to go past it, even though it’s a 50mph limit.

Sorry but I can fit my artic in between the white lines of lane 3 (which I reckon is 9ft wide, not 6’6 like they tell you) so that’s where I shall drive while the numpties boys and girls in their cars scratch their heads trying to figure it all out.

Same thing going over Dartford bridge Willy, The outside two (of four) lanes are signposted all the way over as 6 foot 6 inches, it obviously doesnt apply to the 8 wheeler tippers as they are exempt from EVERYTHING, i was overtaken the other week by around 15 trucks, including the likes of Tesco, Asda etc.

I’ve noticed that all those joining from the M60 junction (assuming you’re talking about the anti-clockwise direction) don’t bother to stay in the lane that joins, but for some reason (known only to themselves) immediately have to move over in front of you, into what is now lane 2, even when there is next to nothing in their lane to start with. I find it easier to move left into what’s now lane 1 and pass 'em all on the inside, doing spot on 50mph. Plenty of time to move back across later before the M61. I know you’re not supposed to ‘undertake’ but ■■■■ 'em, they should try going a bit faster than 38mph throught the cameras!

I stayed in lane 3 and ignored the width limit once - won’t be doing that again. It’s a bit hairy when there’s another wagon next to you.

Yeah, that’s the only thing you’ve got to watch for. I too keep out of the way if there’s another wagon at the side of me :sunglasses: .
