Are your kids future Truckers and how do u feel about it?

Are your sons or daughters wanting to takeup the trade an if they want to, how does that make u feel and will u help them/train them up to be top tradesmen and or women? Imo im hoping my sons take it up as it is a good job and has good job security and long endless future with exciting long ever changing and adapting revolutionizing advances and bigger hike in salarys as time goes on which we have seen in the last yr or two, also the world will always need Truckers in many different areas and sections of the industry specialist loads work / adr haz loads work etc etc and can earn huge money doing it. Also a Trucker has skills to carry over to other Trades if they want to jump ship, and are highly skillful with there hands in the craft which is Trucking which will always carry over well to any part of the world in the Transport/Trucking industry.yes the long hours at times and been away from home can and is hard but its a balance an u just have to map it right like everything else in life every job has its ups an downs. as it stands i have no problem with it and will be advising towards it ie the Trucking industry for my sons, but its up to them at the end of the day. My sons have an interest an are already learnin on the job at 3 and 1 yrs old lol. Interested in my Truckin bros views and or opinions? #KEEPONTRUCKIN

Advancements in technology & AI are creeping up on us all the time.

I wouldn’t be so sure about truck drivers being able to command high wages for decades to come as in cab tech dumbs the job down more & more and self driving AI comes in more.

There will always be a need for drivers, but probably less in future as some of the hub-hub trunking type work starts falling into the hands of AI. It will happen.

I’d say that there are more future proof trades to get into working with your hands.

I’m 33, still with 30 odd years of work ahead of me. Heaven knows what tech we will have on our hands by then. I doubt lorry driving will keep me going forever, thus pursuing a career change. Best to do it now rather than when i’m mid 40’s/50.

It’s not a bad job, for those who can’t punctuate.

There is a ceiling to everything in life and AI technology and technology in general will be no different and has already peaked imo. The job will be the same 100s of yrs from now. We will have a few extra mods and aids but thats it. #KEEPONTRUCKIN

Hahaha i see wat u did there,… wink wink nod nod

My sons are 23 and neither of them would be remotely interested in driving a truck for a living.

Looks like the o/p Mr Head in his latest guise and nom de plume, has been dispatched by the mods, so I’ll comment on his thread.
I’m sure he’ll value my contribution being my latest and new no.1 fan. :sunglasses:

All my kids have travelled all over UK and Eurooe with me in the past in their school hols, 2 lads, 2 girls,.all grown up now (allegedlly  )
2 girls had no intention, 2 lads did, in fact the eldest failed a rigid test (glad to say tbh)

Both lads are in ■■■■ good jobs now, motor trades making sh loads more money they would ever have made in this game, and I feel pleased with myself that I managed to consciously talk them out of entering the industry. :sunglasses:

My younger son was never academically great although he is a smart lad and very practical and quite ingenious.

He started out on a highways gang and saw that he would benefit from doing his HGV so funded his class 2, got a job with a local firm doing small tool and plant doing 3.5t work when he was 18 and waiting for his HGV training during lockdown / shutdown. Passed his test and started on 7.5t before quickly progressing to an 8w rigid.

Got a good pay rise last year so paid for his class 1 out of it. He’s 20 and has now got potential to earn a half decent living. Much better than his skill and other quals would provide.

Ok, but I also know a couple of small words, both of one syllable,.which coincidentally is my FINAL answer to you on this forum, and parting shot,…as tbh you are boring me now.
