What you are eating to keep Costs down till Work picks up again?
There is anywhy a Forum missing to discuss Food for Truckers.
We have dropped our supermarket shopping by 50%. We only buy enough food for 7 evening meals, and basic store cupboard food. Just enough to survive. ALL treats are gone.
I find pot noodles a useful source of the essential vitamins needed to keep me going day in day out , this useful
information was given to me by a sadly departed member of the internet trucking world RIP.
Hope that is of some help .
He was a fountain of knowledge… Bless him.

He posted it but it seems to have ended up at my place.
Maybe he got the envelopes mixed up and you got my hate mail?
Keep a Pot noodle container, get some cheap noodles from the Salve company called Tesco’s at 11p, and get some seasoning if you dont like the chicken or curry sachets

I posted you those one pound notes you sent me originally back in good faith , the postal order was made out to “■■■■ Extensions Ltd” who ever they are , so I sent that back as well and now you are ignoring my emails and phone calls , I may have to put it in the hands of Trucknet.co.uks powers .
Hope that is of help.

Although we haven’t been laid off work, it has gone very sparse & we have to keep finding thing to do on slack days. So to survive & to be able to cover the bills, it’s basic shopping , no unessessary trips anywhere. Food mainly consists of carrots, peas, parsnips, onions, swedes, sprouts & any other vegetables you can think of chucked into huge microwave dish & cooked , with mincebeef, & onions in the pan on the stove cooking, when done chuck all together & simmer on with herbs , spices ,seasoning & anything eles you can think of, the longer its simmered for the better it tastes!!, then I freeze it all in small portion size bags. Handy then when I come in from work, just chuck in microwave & got me a healthy quick no fuss meal at minnimal cost. Or i’ll have me a haggis Don’t bother with treats. A good suply of aldis equivilent to a mars bar, does me at work & a Big Mug of tea.

No they just became unfashionable, people bought slow cookers instead, 10 mins prep, 20 mins up to temp and 15-20 mins cook .Loads of vids on you tube on how to use them, bought mine a couple of years ago (Tefal stainless) ,keeps all the nutrients in without boiling them off. Also 1 pan only = more economical energy bills.
a Cupa rice in a saucepan
2 shopped Onion
2 smashed Soupcube (Vege or Beef)
a hand full,or two squared Pork meat (1/2" to 3/4" cubes)
a 3/4 glass Paprika Powder
Salt
& other Spicy if you like
2 Cup Water and put on the Fire without styring (as it would burn on)
Finish Meal when rice is cooked
served with Green Salat and a Beer
i`m doing a mushroom risoto with a bit of steak i found in the freezer.for desert i have a big chocolate cake that was free from the co-op.
I must admit that i am struggling a bit in this recession, i told the wife, when she goes shopping only to pick up 5 bottles of champagne, and to cut down on the caviar, although in all honesty, i forgot to tell her we only need six cases of beer this week, she still bought the usual eight, women eh !
i have to go cos i gotta get the steaks from the freezer, thats if i can get to them, what with all the other stuff we`ve got in there, probably piled on top, always the same innit.
Those slow cookers are where it’s at.Amazingly good at bringing out the full flavour of food and the cheapest cuts of meat more often taste better than the expensive stuff, can’t imagine how that works but it sure does especially where hot pots are concerned.
Which magazine are doing a 1 quid trial membership thing online which sends you one of their magazines and slow cookers are in this months issue,You can also cancel membership again online and still have a months access to their website for the remainder of the month.
Cheese and pickle sarnies for me alas but as the jsa usually runs out at the start of the second week I find fasting to be a good option

Sounds immpresive, maybe I’ll try one one day, though I’ll have to make do with only reading the instructions , can’t get you tube, signals not good enough where I am, it’s a none starter in most cases
Nettles make a great veg in spring, just cook like cabbage, & add to dinner, great source of iron, & free , but dont pick them off the side of the road - you dont know if a dog or similar has just been there!!
& they would be horrible from traffic pollution & dust too

Pressure cookers are great for making soup from scratch really quickly. Meat is something I’m lucky to not spend loads on, I can go out and shoot my own (rabbit and pigeon all year round and pheasants, duck, partridge, woodcock, etc within their respective seasons) or I stick some money into a pot with a few others in my family and we’ll buy a whole cow, lamb or pig from a farmer friend who will joint it and we share the cuts out between us. Best thing about it is the flavour is unbeatable, its really cheap and you know where it came from. The bacon I get is unreal, comes with the full inch thick rind on (though I cut it off when cooking it) and it doesn’t shrink in the pan!
