I was wondering that if you’re working for a company through an umbrella company who insures you to drive hgvs?
As a director of an umbrella company you have to have public liability insurance but who insures you to drive for whichever company you’re sent to work for through the agency as I’d hate to have an accident to find out that I wasn’t insured.
Many thanks
You should be covered by the fleet’s motor insurance…but would be wise to check.
As an EMPLOYEE, insuring your employer’s vehicle is not your responsibility…but in this case it might be the umbrella co’s responsibility, and not the operator’s.
Another reason for not using an umbrella co…
To be honest I’ve never heard of a driver working through an umbrella company who wasn’t insured through the transport companies motor insurance, but it does no harm to check.

Most companies have insurance that covers any driver legally entitled to drive the type of vehicle.
Hence most companies want to see and take copies of your licence .
Others are able to add you to the insurance via an online portal to their insurance companies account . You have usually signed an agreement with the agency to share your details.

Who ever owns the truck…buys the insurance, and either a driver is added…or its an across the board/fleet that its insured for any driver…depending on age restrictions, and convictions etc.umbrella or agency has no desire to insure a vehicle not belonging to them. and if one of them asks you to insure it…then tell them to swivel on it…public liability is another issue…but i believe thats down to the company who owns the land, and i certainly wouldnt buy it if anybody asked me to…i am a driver for hire…and all i require is the legal documents to drive whatever vehicle.
