Just been in Morrisons.
Saw a fella whose trolley was full to the brim with hand sanitizers, baby wipes, soaps, everything that people need!!
I called him a selfish git, and gave him a low down about the elderly and mums etc who need these types of things.
Told him he should be bloody ashamed of himself!
He said: “that’s all good and well mate but I work here, can I carry on filling the shelves now?
I read this in one of the papers and though I’d share it here:
"So I was struck by a letter in the Daily Telegraph, from a retired doctor, Dr George Birdwood, of Shipton Moyne, Gloucestershire, who qualified in 1953. It deserves a wider audience:
'I have been reflecting on how we would have reacted to a coronavirus epidemic in those days. The answer is not at all, for three main reasons.
'The Covid-19 virus could not have been identified rapidly enough, if at all. Most cases would have been too mild to attract attention in this season of coughs and sneezes.
And the small proportion of deaths among elderly people with chronic respiratory disease would have remained much as usual for the time of year.
'It follows that there would have been no alarm or counter-measures. International trade and travel would have carried on as usual. World stock markets would not have collapsed. And governments would not have needed to get involved.
‘As it is today, we know too much about the coronavirus for our own good, but almost nothing about treating its victims or preventing its spread.’
Sometimes a little knowledge really can be a dangerous thing.
I’m not advocating complacency, but I do worry what we’re seeing right now is well-intentioned over-reaction"

I’d already seen that somewhere. I’m 72 and most of my mates (who include a retired GP) and close relatives are in the same age group. We’ve all been saying exactly the same since the Corona thing started. And when did it really start, I know a number of people who’ve been knocked for six by particularly nasty bugs this winter before we’d heard of Covid-19, they’ve all got over it and just referred to it as flu but was it? And re: the over 70s staying at home; pound to a pinch of poop I’m fitter than a lot of the 20-30 years younger fat, smoking and pigging slobs I see around here. I’ve no underlying health issues. I don’t need telling to wash my hands, I’m always doing it, have you seen the state of some of the trolley handles at Tescos and the state of some of the people pushing 'em? I kicked up a stink in my local branch ages ago about it.
Two years ago I was grounded for about 3 months due to an adverse reaction to a prescribed routine medication, false alarm eventually resolved. Up to then I was fully fit and people I met didn’t believe I was that old. After my enforced slow down I’d lost a lot of my muscle tone and strength, everything became an effort and left me aching. I got back to my usual routine and worked through it, I’ve never got back the full strength I had before but still good for my age. Now to the point - part of my daily regime is a brisk 2-3 mile walk with my dog, I live in a village surrounded by fields and woods, when I walk I usually meet a handful of other dog-walkers and we chat at the length of two dog leads. I don’t feel the slightest bit worried. If the government think I’m going to stop doing it they’ve another think coming!

Well call me selfish call me irresponsible, I aint in the vulnerable age group, but I ain’t changing my lifestyle over all this.
Me and the Mrs went round the town yesterday for a coffee, town was quiet, went to supermarket also quiet, all the panic buyers had ■■■■ ed off from the wk.end, so shelves were not too bad.
I thought what’s the point of staying in on my days off then going to work tomorrow.
Unless I come down with a cough or bad cold, I won’t stop going to the pub …until they shut them completely , way I see it is if it really IS as bad as the hype, I’m going to get it anyway, so so be it, then hopefully I’ll get over it and move on.
My little granddaughter who is 3 had a normal ‘kids cough’ and my daughter was told not to bring her to her play school, she rang her work and they told her to take a couple of weeks off because of it.
My main concern is my older relations in their 80s, but other than that business as usual for me, or until I show any symptoms then it’s a re.think.
that looks like you, nodding donkey and myself of the same ilk.
i genuinely just dont give a monkeys flying toss about getting it or not.
if its coming, bring it on ,die for a week with headaches, and snotters and get it over with.
my only interest is the inconvenience from these lemming/faceache/twitter absolute panic buying fannys that have cleaned out shops with the result that you also have to buy extra when you can because of them.
unless its made physically impossible otherwise, then il be doing my normal day every day till someone stops me.
having said that however…me and my misses went into a spar shop on sunday night as they were unloading the delivery truck timed exactly that when they rolled the cage to the shop floor,we each lifted a slab of bog roll and ended up walking out the shop ■■■■■■■ ourselves laughing with 80 of them just for the craic.(pun intended)
i absolutely genuinely do not care one iota and just feel nothing but scorn and ridicule for the mumsnet twaddlers that do…anyone else of a similar mindset ■■?
I am with Robroy on this. Business as usual as far as possible. I remember when children got Chicken pox they had parties so that all of the children got it and that was Chickenpox put behind them. How many deaths from Asbestosis ,tobacco and alcohol.? Keep calm and carry on.

I wouldn’t worry too much about your relatives in their 80s mate if they’re otherwise fit and well, age is just a number, that’s my point really. I’m not being insensitive about this, I lost my much loved big brother 7-odd years ago, he was 76, mentally fit, but had emphysema, probably due to smoking most of his life and inhaling diesel fumes as a mechanic and a driver, (anybody on London markets in the last days of the old Covent Garden will tell you, you couldn’t see the other end of your lorry for smoke sometimes). He’d been stable for some years but got pneumonia, fairly easily curable for a fit person but too much for his damaged lungs to cope, finished him off. His death certificate gave cause of death as COPD which is a bit of a catch-all for lung disease. If it had been now and it had been Coronavirus instead of pneumonia that killed him would he have been added to the list of deaths in the headlines every day caused by Corona?
Me and my wife, (she’s OK to go out, only 69 ) will be round the supermarket as usual tomorrow for our weekly shop, deal on Guinness at Tescos so get some in if it’s not all been bought up for stockpiling, I have two every night, have done all my adult life and have told the medics I’m not changing now, I’ve just come through my annual health review with a clean sheet, so job’s a good’un.

Went asda Trafford park 6am.this morning on way to work. All shelves were empty.
Got talking to woman
She said there looking at closing overnight. So they can stock the shelves.
As basically they run on skeleton staff. Can’t stack the shelves on nights . As soon as anyone comes out with a cage there swapped by customers and getting injured.
She said they got 90%of the stock but can’t get it on the shelf quick enough
.
And even though there’s a 4 item limit now people still take more and if challenged give out abuse.
But thereve worked out use self service tills and can get as much as you like

I’ve already thought about enforcing the limit on items per shopper. You can understand why the shop management and staff won’t push it, in the violent world we inhabit today, they stand a chance of physical abuse, even a knife in the guts if they dare to apply it. I don’t know whether it’s standard policy, I’ve noticed our local Tesco no longer has a security man by the doors, used to. There’ll be a lot of bouncers looking for work with the restriction on pubs and clubs, time for the supermarkets to take some on for the duration to enforce the rules?

I feel sorry for all the older people who are alone with nobody to help them, the msm propaganda machine is getting to much now,i bet there are secluded oldies in absolute panic over this nonsense, people will die of starvation afraid to venture out ffs.
The media needs to shut up a bit.
We did a shop today, not a bog roll or strip of spag to be seen, not a single headache tablet in the place, milk down to the last few 2 pinters, weird though not a chicken to be found either.
Did however meet a really nice youngish chap, customer at the tills, he was embarking on a 150 mile journey to stock his granny’s larder up for her, top man, if it wasn’t for this C thing he’d have found himself in a crushing hug from my Mrs, not many like he to be found any more.
I’ve mentioned these things before, but consider fitting a Shattaf (bum gun) in your toilet, the balanced valve sort which regulate the temperature regardless of flow rate, better than a bidet and once used you will never return to bog rolls, £80 and few hours DIY will see a good one installed, you can get cheaper set ups but cold water only.

Hate to say I agree with you …but I do.
It’s absolute overkill on the tv,.and my mother spends most of her time watching tv.and I’ve tried to explain to her to not take too much notice,.and tried to play it down to reassure her.
My Auntie is at high risk as she has lung problems, so I have tried to tell her to stay in and that my lot will keep her supplied, but the older generation are known for their independence, not to mention stubbornness.

Now this is the kind of information we truly need, although I confess ignorance as to this device you mention .Could be a good thing to invest in hook, line and sinkers and get to the coast for some of those there cod, mackerel and bass as well.Practically a limitless food source if the critters have made it past the factory trawler, football stadium, sized nets. I went to the local big supermarkets today which actually do close at night all the usual cleaning disinfection stuff the shelves were empty. There’s no excuse for it there weren’t even many people there just empty shelves.
But then the shock absolutely no fresh meat or poultry also all totally empty…Whatever is causing it it ain’t panic buyers.Even if it was no one is going to hoard expensive fresh meat just to freeze it when there’s cheaper frozen stuff to buy.Possibly it’s the ‘local’ corner shop fraternity clearing the shelves in the hope of a big profit later by reselling the stuff.
Or more likely it’s all being diverted from the point of manufacture. In which case frozen stuff will also predictably run out later. No surprise where that would all be going.I’m even more convinced now that 9/11 was an example of China putting the frighteners on the west and it caved in.This is the result.Starve the West to feed China and this is only the test run.Bearing in mind that live bat and noodles etc is probably now off their menus and they’ve suddenly realised the benefits of using all the usual cleaning products like every other civilised country.
Funny you should mention fish, Manalishi, Morrisons had a special offer on big whole salmon couple of weeks ago, so bought two really large blighters, sliced 'em up into individual portions and frozen for the delight of my fair lady over the next 6 months or so, heads and tails boiled up gently which the dogs loved.

Truth… I was listening to BBC 4 a few nights ago, an elderly lady called and asked something along the lines of ‘Can you imagine what it’s like to be bombarded every single hour on every media telling you you’re about to die any time now’. I can’t imagine but I’m calling my parents (both 60s) every few days now where before I used to call them once a week or every other week. Med professionals are trying to walk the thin line between alerting people without scaring them but the genie has been left out of the bottle, people and media are now believing/saying what they want to believe as usual. It’s the biggest ■■■■ up of the century, for sure both how nothing was done about it when it had to be and the delayed over-reaction which plunged the world in a crisis worse than 9/11 + 2008 combined
