I’ve heard that doctors make the worst patients so, in that vein, are you a good passenger?
I’ve had colleagues who I can’t relax with and some that I can sleep while they drive. How quick can you tell whether you’ll be comfortable with others driving & do you actively coach/guide/advise while a passenger?
Include family members as well as my kids scared my in there younger days but very easy with them driving me now, so much so that if they offer I’ll nearly always accept. My older parents went the other way & I actively stopped my wife & kids with my step father who only gave up after writing off 3 cars in a little over 8 months & couldn’t get insurance renewed.
I am a terrible passenger, as my wife tells me if I’m ever unable to drive like after a recent hospital visit…
In a truck I’m just as bad, and when i used to double man i would try to be on my best behaviour but i did quite often relapse…
Dunno what it is apart from me obviously being a driving god and all others not being anywhere near my high standards…

Put another way are you a back seat driver
im a terrible passenger though quite happy if the driver is well competent and theres no sense of apprehension or impending doom.
on the other hand similar to my lack of comfort when sitting beside nearly every woman ive been transported by to varying degrees depending on how erratic their driving abilities are, then my misses for example wears glasses for driving that you can see into the future with.
she has no sense of direction or awareness 360 or otherwise .
theres no awareness of some form of possible hazard whatsoever with the resulting floor on the passenger side getting bent out of shape due to me pressing the invisible brake.
i dont like flying in general as im not in control though i deffo do not want to see some non binary gender neutral kebab muncher with her baps sellotaped down and a mans haircut sitting where i hope the 50 years old ex air force veteran should be sitting.
my only recompense there is that if the trolly ladies can hack it,then so can i.
I would be a better passenger if the drivers were better drivers.

You can come and be a passenger with me and I’ll show you that from all this rushing about that you do and stress that you cause yourself in the process saves you so little in reality it’s not worth it
My wife drives faster than me but prefers me to drive on unfamiliar roads. I quite enjoy her driving me about since my illness,

no thanks.
the only stress i get from driving trucks or privately is when im stuck behind someone similar to what you proclaim to drive like until i get past them.
this applies when im not in a hurry or otherwise, spot on speed limit road commanders are just best viewed in the mirror.
driving normally ( for me ) actually does save masses of time day in and out.
I cant sleep when on night trunks as co driver always sets limiter to 52mph. Im used to sleeping flat out.

Bollox is does as I can once again prove to you with speed distance time calculations to show how little you actually save for all the getting wound up over it.
calculate all you like mate, the reality is somewhat different moreso if your not toodling around the doors but heading a good distance with the knock on effect for the next part of your shift, rest, ferry, ect.
be happy in your own wee world and let anyone pass you that wants to…
Hate being a passenger, car or truck. Possibly because I’m bit of a control freak and dont like the thought of putting my life in someone elses hands.

As long as I’m doing the speed limit or the maximum safe speed for my vehicle and load within that limit I won’t be letting you or anyone else past as I don’t have to. So you’ll have to go and have a cry about it and deal with it

no crying here bud as theres plenty thats like you that the more normal drivers deal with on a daily basis…just remember to keep your elbows in…
Having sat with complete novices and very experienced drivers both can be equally as scary.
The good thing about that was both were there to learn and most came away as better drivers What always amazed me was the experienced drivers that thought they were top notch and I include police drivers in that. It really is amazing how some drivers become so complacent they don’t even realise how poor their driving has become.
Of course there are some that are competent but they were always in the minority.
DD your definition of normal drivers is complete nonsense. From what you say that makes normal drivers Bad drivers.
On second thoughts maybe you have a point.
No, I’m not a good passenger, in fact I detest it and refuse to be driven by anyone else.
I think this stems from 20 years ago, when I was a passenger in my ex gfs brothers car, he was driving like a lunatic along the road they lived in and we smashed into a telegraph pole, no one was injured but that put the tin lid on it for me.
I don’t like going in a bus now either, as I’ve seen the antics of some of these bus drivers who think they’re James Hunt.
Well I reckon that (in general!) most passengers who are also drivers think they are a better driver than the one actually behind the wheel!
I’m ok usually as I know the capabilites of most folk I travel with but it is very rare that I am a passenger these days though. Regarding being a passenger in a truck; the main road from our quarry to Ashbourne was very narrow in places (it has since been widened) and sometimes a driver would cadge a lift home if his truck was in dock etc. Almost always they leant across onto the engine cowling as the hedges were very close to the cab (broken mirrors were a common problem if you met something big) and they weren’t used to that view from the driving seat!
Pete.

the speeding fines collected every year might somewhat prove that point?
