Hi I’ve been on agency for the last 2 and half years since I worked at stobarts in Leeds until it shut now im on a temp to perm job at clipper that I was offered last month delivering to Morrison’s steady work and no hassle now had Carlsberg in Leeds call me offering a drayman driver job I applied online in February! I did it last summer at k & n well hard work told them about my temp to perm job and the told me to think about it lol think ill stick at clipper lots less hassle and work at my age 42
You class 42 as old?
I know things are looking up in the US, yet to see anything here to the pre recession times. Our driver trainer said to me he/she was on secondment to a site we have in Leeds to get some drivers trained up etc, apparently they struggled to find perm ones but plenty Agy…
A Directgov job search for my area has thrown up loads of imaginary, sorry, agency jobs. There’s a job going at a local stone company on grab tipper, the company are advertising it at £9.50 p/h but Driver Hire are also advertising the same job at £8.50 p/h. I’ll give that job a miss thanks, firm runs complete crap.
Hi I used to do dray work before I moved on to trunking IMO stay on ya temp to perm there is no extra pay to justify the graft in the drayman work and carlsberg is no longer job and knock its all 2nd 3rd runs ect…
And you have to spend ages brushing the horses down after.

At least you would get a couple of buckets full of oss [zb] for ya plants!

Or alternatively make a stand. It will see wages rise as demand outweighs supply.
Or it’ll see lots of Poles brought in to do the job for minimum wage.

Aaaah - you remind me of Turners of Soham.

Pretty much the same in my area. Think I’ve seen less than ten jobs round Carlisle since January that weren’t agency, but hey! They must be busy because they seem to need new drivers every week(!)
Megawhat?:

It isn’t helped by the fact that to see all lgv jobs in your area, you need to do separate searches for “hgv”, “lgv”, and classes 1 and 2.
A Google search will always come up with ancient jobs from Easy as HGV or more annoyingly for me, “lgv2 jobs Oxfordshire” (obviously setting date/time to past week/24 hours) will always show driving jobs from all over the country. And to me, Gumtree just sounds a dodgy way to advertise a vacancy.

When I worked there, it was competitive wages - hour for hour I took home roughly the same as I did on Maritime doing the same job

Haven’t been to their yard meself, nor know anything about them, but the tyre bloke nearby reckoned it was worth visiting just to view the lorry graveyard, not died through age but damage.
I went to see a local contractor about a vacancy tey’d put on Directgov jobs, as where I am I’m paid for 55 hours but I seem to be doing 60 odd unless I work through my breaks. I was offered the job with the contractor there and then but although the hours are great, I’d gross almost what I take home now. I was worried that as they know I can drive plant, I might also get asked to do more for my money, so I decided to stay put.
That job was possibly the only decent one on the website.
