Are they Mad

Sounds like they want road tax as it stands on existing roads and the new charges for new roads, as always making things super complicated (expensive to implement and to run), instead of a simple solution.

that website:
Activists have long sought to explore revenue generation options for road users.

Yeah, how can they make money from road users?
Maybe they could have a Road Fund Licence, kinda like a road tax system?
OOh, I know, what about forcing people to have expensive insurance which has an insurance tax on it?
Ahh, how about fuel duty?
VAT on anything required for the car including the fuel (and the fuel duty - tax on tax, nice idea)
MOT’s will keep businesses in business, which will increase tax income

etc…

Hmm, I’ve no idea how they could generate any money from motorists? :imp:

Just another dressed up scheme to get yet more money out of people. How many people who drive now as a percentage would need to buy a more expensive road tax to use motorways ■■? About 99% id say. The government line will be well you have a choice. Which is hobsons as usual

It’s all coming together nicely. They have slipped in an ANPR network across the country under the guise of it being a crime prevention system. They have also introduced higher fuel duties under the ‘green banner’ and they have introduced us to the acceptable face of toll roads under the reducing congestion logo.

Now is the time for them to introduce country wide toll roads, enforcement of higer excise duty utilising the ANPR network and drag in even more fuel duty by driving traffic onto the less fuel efficient side roads.

Will there we a national outcry from the private and business ‘road users’ across the UK?. Alternatively, will we do the british thing and just let them do it to us again… Yes of course we will

WIN WIN WIN for the treasury

Spot on, anyone who thought the politicians were doing things right by encouraging low emission fuel efficient low or free VED car purchases didn’t look further ahead than 5 minutes.
The sheeple did as they were told and now the VED/fuel tax take is down they’re going to get it back another way.

Road pricing is on the way, and total monitoring of every move you make…remember to say ‘’‘if you are doing nothing wrong you have nothing to fear’‘’, the new socialist state surveillance mantra…repeat hourly.

What people should do is always but always ask ‘‘WHY’’ every time a politician suggests something, there’s always an angle and its always for them.

all this new road policy will do is create more congestion on already overburdened a/b roads

If you don’t use motorways you get cheaper VED,

does that mean if you don’t use the police or fire service you get cheaper council tax? If you have no kids, you don’t pay tax to build schools or pay teachers?

They said on Jeremy Whine today that if you use motorways, the ANPR will catch you and the ‘motorway fee’ added to the next years VED. Bet they haven’t thought about those that sell their car before the tax runs out so the poor sod who buys the car foots the bill.

When the congestion charge came in where there not a few bogus plates fitted to avoid the charge? Roll on road pricing and loads more false plates with all the hassle that’s going to cause with tracing stuff after an accident…and the hike in premiums.
