Just joined and thought I would get some advice before I find another job…
My contract is 45 hour week delivering ibc and bulk chemicals but I am doing 50 to 55 hours per week no nights out as they always want us back for the run the next day
we have to load and unload ourselves class 2 usually takes about 1 hour plus if you can get a fork lift truck !
But I have class one exp passed about 20 years ago …full adr / cpc and cpc national the pay is £27800 but get annoyed when you go in at 4am and go home at 16pm for no extra money
any thoughts or advice on wage / job would be great I am in west Yorkshire .
Your contacted for 45 hours, so why not just do 45 hrs, if they are not paying you for the extra why work it?
Think they will soon learn, all the time your giving your time for nothing
This is whats wrong with a lot of companies. They pay set hours but expect people to work on for nothing.
I NEVER have and never will do unpaid overtime.
I read all the time about people having to work through lunch breaks and stay late at night etc (not hgv obviously but you get my point). Ive never understood why people do it.

I’m just starting out as a Class 2 driver doing multi-drop work and I know where you are coming from. I get paid for 9 1/4 hours a day and sometimes the shift takes 14 hours and never takes less than it is supposed to. As I’m just starting out, I didn’t know if it was the industry norm but I’m going to do my Class 1 in the new year and look to get a point-to-point driving job. The thing is all the other drivers accept it as part of the job but I;m not gonna stand it for long. I love driving, being out on the road but the multi-drop aspect of it with no O/T paid is not what I want to be doing. I’m hoping a class 1 licence will sort that out.
Iv only ever had one driving job on salary and you got long days and short days, one day could be 12hr the next day 6hr so it was swings and roundabouts really.
No way would I do a job like general for salary unless it was very impressive, firms will take the ■■■■ and most drivers just take it .
I’m hourly paid so at least on a long day it ain’t so bad

I will NEVER go back to day pay. For me now it will be by hour or not at all.
I used to do 7.5 ton multi drop for a large electrical store. Usual pap at the interview
“Yeah some days you may work longer than 12 hours and not get paid but others you will do less and we still pay you. It al works out”
I lasted 3 weeks before chucking it. 25-40 drops per day. I was regularly on 14 hr days and no chance of early finishes. A complete ■■■■ take in my opinion
Iv always been quite lucky. My first 7.5t job was 8hr minimum. If I was there the full 8hrs you felt hard done by. My current job 42.5 hrs a week with overtime paid if required. They don’t mind you disappearing if your done a half hour early. I’ll happily give them the odd half hour back foc. Beyond a half hour and you should be paid though!
If your regularly well over your contract hours your employer should be altering your salary to suit or paying the overtime.
