Hi all
Im thinking of taking some training (class C) the trouble is, i cant find any real work? just a 1000 agencies offering £7-£8 per hour, mostly advertising the same job, if the job is even there. yet the training companies are telling me that theres a 30,000 shortage.
ANYBODY with an idea of the real truth
many thanks
It’s 100% safe to say that there isn’t a “driver shortage”. There are scores and scores of experienced drivers on TruckNet who are unemployed or underemployed. Always the same in any recession.
As for whether you would find work, it depends on where you are, your age, previous experience etc as well as a huge dollop of luck, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend spending the money on training now unless you can view it as a long-term investment, and can afford to let your licence sit in a drawer for a couple of years until things turn around.

Sounds like quotes from the broker websites. No self respecting trainer will make such statements.

Yes. Freddy, you are new to the site so apologies for not saying “Welcome along” earlier.
The best first move you can make is to search the forum to find out the difference between a trainer and a broker. Do not, under any circumstances whatsoever, use a broker- there is simply no advantage to doing this, but lots of disadvantages including the fact that they will tell you anything you want to hear if they can extract money from you, including this myth about a “driver shortage”.
