Are some people beyond help?

Just arrived to load grain with a 20ft, another company vehicle already being loaded. As I pull in I stop next to the other drivers cab while waiting for the weighbridge. He gets called to pull off, I pull forward so he can pull out.

He pulls off, closes the doors and stretches the trailer out, he then removes the trailer brake with the pins out but not locked in place to go to the cab and use the trailer brake from there to lock them so you don’t have to get out again to release the trailer brake after locking.

What happened here was there was a slope from the bay, as the trailer brakes were released and the driver walked back the weight & slope caused the trailer to slide down and lock in position 2. Now here is where it gets even more interesting. One of the loaders jumps up on the trailer and fastens the seal, I shoit across something along the lines of “I wouldn’t do that if I were you!” as if the trailer was to repeat it’s slip then he would have been sliced in half with no warning at all.

He jumps off the trailer, comes up to me shouting that I should keep my nose out of other people’s business, stop interfering, I’m paid to drive a truck and then forces my door shut.

In future I’ll not bother trying to prevent people getting sliced in half then :unamused:

he sounds like a very ignorant person, like you said don’t bother in future, let people like him learn the hard way

Id have ended up being banned off site through giving him a loose jaw the ■■■■■■ :imp:

You offered advice, he chose to ignore it. Some people are like that. He was probably embarrassed to be caught making such a mistake so covered it by being a prick.

Leave him, Painfull lessons are the ones we learn quickest.

It wasnt your fault you got banned from site, maybe the loader went to his manager to complain, i would write to clear my name to the T/M or office manager saying i was merely trying to stop the health and safety people from shutting down the site whilst an investigation was carried out as to why one of their staff was lying in two pieces.
I would also point out that it was none of his business to climb onto the backs of trailers either, even if it was to put on a seal, its the drivers job if it means climbing on the rear of a trailer, or to seal it prior to the driver changing the length.

Who got banned from site? What loader? These are questions we need answering!

No you can’t help some people, in my previous work our trainer had a quiet word with the trainer of another company where hundreds of 4x4’s are loaded, our company had spent weeks finding out exactly where to put the 2 heavy 4x4’s on the back of the trailer with the use of portable axle weighers, too far back and you’re a ton over on the last axle and causes the tail to wag the dog violently.

Our bloke (pleasant and discreet) had seen that the other company with same equipment were loading them in the wrong place and was offering VOSA fine and vehicle saving advice for free, other trainer’s answer, ‘mind you’re own business pal’.

Some of 'em can only learn the hard way, me?, i’d have been pleased as punch at the heads up.

About 18 months ago I was waiting at a weighbridge after being loaded with steel pipes. Another wagon had just been loaded beside me. Driver extended his trailer then the loder climbed on the back to shut the doors. I said to him he shouldn’t do that as there is no stable footing on a skelly trailer and he was risking a sore one. He said to me “You worry about the driving and mind your own business pal,let me worry about my own footing”.
I then watched as,a few minutes later, his front foot slipped and he full on head butted the container.

Karma. Rely on it. Maybe it doesn’t work immediately, but what goes round, comes round.
