Are all transport managers ignorant

So as the title asks !! Called around a few skip and tipper companies with regards to some ad-hoc work around my current day jobas have been told it’s a good way to cut your teeth and the craic is great.

Smaller companies I found to be awesome and really gave some fantastic feedback, came of the phone feeling really hopeful, however the two larger contracting companies I found to be anything other than helpful !! Neither of the transport managers came to the phone how rude ! First guy said to the third party while I was still listening tell him nah I am not interested !!
When I asked if I could leave my details just in case he finds himself short of a driver and I am available he then got snotty to the third party.

Second of the two I was informed would call me back!!, when I called them today I was told I am not what they need by the same third party I spoke with the other day!! the reason was as they hook load and I have no experience not even a kiss my a**e leave us your details or nothing !! Would it have hurt to call a man back.

So is this the norm or a one off as the reason I want out of my offshore job is I want away from managers like that. Been offshore for 16 years so no stranger to how to handle them at the top but wanted a career change as fancy being my own boss.

No in answer to the above, although gotta say that just incase ours are reading this (although they are nice really).

I think you’ll find in smaller companies, you get treated a little more like a human being (not exclusively), but in the bigger ones god knows who you’ll end up talking to even if it’s via a 3rd party. I wouldn’t bother asking for the transport manager, but just tell them you’re looking for work as a new starter and they’ll be able to direct you to the most appropriate person.

The fact that they treat you like that probably gives an idea that you really don’t want to work for them!

Might be worth remembering at this point how annoying cold call telephone sales people are when you’ve just got home after a 12 hour shift and in the middle of yer dinner, and they call you and start going through their script.

To be fair, at least you know they’re not interested, better than someone telling you what you want to hear (politician style) and raising false hopes.

There is always that but I do love trolling the cold callers.

You can’t expect to pass your test and ring up thinking there will be part time work waiting for you, the chance of there regular driver not being there so they need you is so small.

Yeah mate I understand that part just thought I’d ask around is all, as fancied that route over agency any day.

Have no issue if they have nothing like what looking for just I guess I’m from different times and would speak to someone direct rather than be rude manners cost nothing in am polite on the phone kind of expect same back but hey ho live and learn.

Never expect anything on a plate me always knee it would be hard to get work and don’t expect anything for nothing, think you are misreading what I have posted.

Could be worse this man was a Transport Manager
