Are all Motos now charging for showers?

Both Reading and Cardiff West are charging £3 for a shower now if youre not parking overnight.

Is this happening at all Moto sites now?

yes according to the free truck paper

Didn’t pay in Cherwell valley the other week. Mind it was around midnight when I was there.

i bet they havent improved any have they?

From Moto’s own website…

Why do prices at Motorway Service Areas sometimes seem so high?

We are open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year and for around half of that time we have to pay to be open (employee wages, power etc) when we are taking very little money and customers can use car parks, picnic areas, showers, washrooms etc. all for free.

Hmmmm, barring picnic areas and showers I seem to recall the likes of Tesco et al being open 24 hours too.

I dont know how they can justify charging £3 for a shower when you can go in Chippenham and pay £1.50 for a lovely clean and hot shower.

Robbing ■■■■■ they are. You wouldnt mind paying it if it was clean and spotless but they are average at best. The woman did tell me if i spent over £10 in the shop the shower was free.

I used a moto shower not long ago, can’t remember which one, but when I asked them about a charge, they said they don’t but they do take a deposit for the key.

Im more than happy to pay but expect it to be clean which they rarely are!

So thats a sarnie and a can of pop then.

> Thank you for your feedback.
> Following a successful trial, Moto are charging non paying customers for using shower facilities at its 48 motorway service areas in a move designed to cut down vandalism and abuse of facilities. It is expected that the vast majority of existing users of showers will be unaffected by this change.
> The cost will be £3, but will be included in the current parking tariff paid by cars, vans and HGVs, so drivers paying for parking, including those who have parking accounts, will not have to pay extra to use the showers. Also anyone who spends a minimum of £10 on fuel, or at least £5 on food and drink, will not have to pay the shower charge. We believe that this is fair and will ensure that the showers are kept in better condition for the majority of customers.

A mate had a go at Moto on their FB site and got this in part reply

I was going to say that the chances are the driver has just put £500 of diesel in his truck and would be a bad job if he had to pay for water, but the reply in your post seems fair enough.

Dont get me wrong i am happy to pay to use DECENT facilities, but like i said the two services i mentioned are at best average and certainly not worth three quid. Not when Chippenham truck stop is half that and twenty times better.

You also have to ask yourselves how long before they all start charging ridiculous prices for a shower.

And do they really think we use three quids worth of lukewarm water to shower?

So do you get a shower then a refund when you buy fuel? Or do you get fuel, then have to reverse through the services to park for your shower? Or get fuel, leave wagon on pump, have shower, read magazines in smiths then grab coffee before back to wagon 45 minutes later. I’m guessing the last one would really ■■■■ bob off:oops:

Went into Toddington N/B today and the showers are still free

To be honest I rarely use motorway service areas but I was quite impressed with the shower facilities in Cherwell Valley. They were both clean and spacious with plenty of hot water.

Before anybody says “yeah but they’re brand new” I also stopped in Charnock Richard northbound the other week and found the showers there to be of much the same standard.
