the few companies i am familiar with in Newcastle seem to have some right old tatty trailers ,proper rust buckets with torn curtains however they seem to have nice new units
You’re going to be hard pushed to find anywhere that never has a problem of some sort… Are you really expecting to find a job where your trailer never blows a bulb ? or has a puncture ?
It’s par for the course in haulage I’m afraid…
A few weeks ago I phone the Tm at 0720 to let him know I was going to miss a timed delivery due to a puncture…Apparently I was the 3rd to call in with the same problem within 20 minutes…
Yesterday I picked up a trailer ready to roll for Monday, and had 2 bulbs out…
We have 80 trucks, none of which is over 3 years old and 150 trailers, and operate out of 6 different places… Something is going to go wrong every day…
Good luck in your quest for the perfect job, and let me know when you find it…I could do with one myself.

all the same , just different colours, they will all use and abuse to further their own ends
Sorry but you are living in cloud cuckoo land. All companies have a problem at some stage, and the light bulb that doesnt blow hasnt been invented yet.
Also dont know of a firm that will have you out for 3-4 weeks then guarentee a load up to a certain part of the country just because it suits a driver. If your after the perfect job then sorry but truck driving isnt really for you.
I know Ramage were looking for drivers last week. Never been myself but a mate works there and he gets along fine. Jobs were on the new version of jobcentreplus.

You make no mention of money, so is driving a smart truck more important to you than what the wage will be? Do you maybe reckon that this is one of the reasons that some firms think it’s acceptable to pay crap money because they run said smart motors
I AM NOT LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT JOB = I luv what i’m doing - It’s just I work nights the only one at my company and get no support -
My transport manager just wants to sleep and tells me just to ring breakdown who don’t want to come out as the trailers have problems every night.
I only asked if it was the same for everybody else who works nights - Well that is what I meant… I do not live in a different world - I do have a mental age of * 7 * if that counts !
Looking for a Tramping job (I did it years ago before I was laid off) as I have to pay rent on a room and can only afford to go home once a month for 1 day and it is now becoming a strain.
I luv driving - I luv driving class 1 finally and find most drivers are really helpful… One Lady driver stopped me on the M5 and told my indicators had gone on my trailer and stopped and give me a hand… Really nice of her… Thank-you if you are on here.

You should go onto days then fella, everyone will be up and you will have all the backup you need.
Dont like to be critical luv26t but the comment above does kinda hit the nail on the head.

Would have thought that you’d be more equiped for the crap that goes with wagon driving, as you would know, tramping will leave you out on a limb with little in the way off backup.

I can see your logic, I know many companies that allow drivers to stay in theyre truck even in the yard, the company forgoing the oportunity to send it out on nights, but i think that to stay in the truck all weekend maybe somewhat trouble some.
