Hi does anybody know where my nephew can get a driving apprenticeship in the Cheshire area (Macclesfield he lives)he’s really keen to be a driver, he’s 19years old cheers
Never heard of a driving apprenticeship, Eddie Stobart might put him though his licence but I’d imagine that’s over subscribed.
Hth
muiller wisemen are/were known too do this but whether they still do i dont know but it may be worth a phone call too find out
The Cemex site I work at have a vacancy notice up. They are looking for Apprentice class 2 tipper drivers at various locations in the UK.
Maybe it is too far away but Knights of Old at Kettering had a new driver scheme. All driving training paid for to obtain the licences.
Maybe rent a flat and share it with others to reduce the rent.
that came up in Germany.
Takes 2 Year and you get a certificate of Professional Truck Driver.

I’m all for improving the industry, but dressing it up as an “apprenticeship” as if it is some type of vocational craftsman trade that takes years to qualify is stretching it a bit. A driver is usually a badly paid dead end job, where you finish your working life at the same status level as when you started.
The Stobart empire’s “academy” is a good example of over-egging things, but Stobart’s Head up their own arses attitudes is prevalent in everything they do.
Saying that,… I hope your boy gets fixed up, although I managed to talk both my lads out of it, and they both have done proper apprenticeships in real “trades” with good money and prospects.
Hiya S Coopers ex Bollington now Winsford do the 18 year old driver training sceme. when you pass i
think you have to drive for them for a certain amount of time…i worked for Coopers in the 80,s it
was the best job ever, but like the times the job isn’t the same any more. I’d stay away from driving
Good luck…i wouldn’t mention my name they didn’t like the way i left

Can not argue with any of that, but when I think when I packed in my apprentice trained trade to do this, nobody could talk me out of it, I had been away with my older mates in their trucks, and was determined.
Whether it was a good move is arguable,… ok it aint arguable it was a bloody bad move , transport has cost me missing my kids growing up, bankruptcy 20yrs ago, resulting in loss of my house, and all the rest of it.
OK if you have done this job a long time you will also know that back then it WAS a good job, bearing little or no resemblance to the over regulated b/s it has evolved into today.

so if it was a good job back then, why did you lose your house, why did you get declared bankrupt. why did you miss kids growing up?
the job was just as crap then as it is now

Ok, If it’s necessary to explain , here goes.
- It was a good when I started as an employed driver in 1979 (In MY opinion
)as a young and keen lad at 21.
2.Because my haulage business went bankrupt in 1992
3.That’s got ■■■■ all to do with you.
4.I was away for most of their childhood tramping UK and Europe. - In my opinion that is how it has evolved over the years. (As I said)
Hope that explained things for you!
3663 were recently advertising for apprentice class C drivers down at paddock wood.
Might be worth enquiring whether this is a national programme.

Yes, this is true and you can take it from me, it is a good deal.
I think it’s mostly firms that struggle to hold down drivers, get them on an apprenticeship and you’ve got them tied down for x amount of time.
