AOL networking

HI

Does anyone have AOL(adsl) and have set up a network with shared internet access.

Heres the problem

Asked by a mate at work if i could set up a network for him, “sure i can do that”, done it at home ok no problem.

So i get him 2 ethernet cards all the cables and a hub, so i set the network up everything sees eachother and access to the 2 boxes is working fine, but i couldnt set up the ICS. short call to AOL, they tell me you have to use a router.

SO off to the shops again to buy a router, set it all up everything sees each other again but this time both have internet access. great i thought, untill i find out both cant log onto MSN messenger.

Looked at the firewall, thats all set right, but the bugger still wont log onto to msn messenger, looked at the routers config but im not sure what to enable or set up,doing my head in this is, havent a clue so i try i few setting tweaks to no avail.

So if anyone has any tips on what to try next your advise would be most welcome from a totally blood shot eyed head pounding semi clueless muppet.

plus the router has seemed to slow the browsing speed to a snails pace.

Both boxes are xp pro

Kind regards

Manny

If you have internet access on both PC’s then it must be the firewall or the MSN program. It sometimes needs reinstalling after messing with the internet connection. Have you got cookies enabled for MSN ? What make router is it ?

I had a problem with NTL getting both computers to connect through a router until a mate of mine gave me a tip …UNPLUG the modem then plug it back in again hey presto and away we went.

Apparently they need to reset in order for the router to work.

looked at about everything.

seems AOL only give tech support on networking if you use a tompson speedtouch router.

off to the shops again…lol
