6.80 for 50 hours
overtime 7.80
steady job but the money is rubbish as minimum wage is 6.31.
Don’t know how true it is but MMTM if they can’t find a return load you don’t get paid for the journey back. Highly unlikely I know but there’s no smoke without fire.

I know that’s probably ■■■■■■■■ but how the hell is that the drivers fault!
Does the planner/office wallah not get paid if I’m moving empty? Actually in my case probably not - it might be the boss trying for the loads.
I was advised to give them a wide berth.
Company has never been the same after the sad demise of Bernard, I was informed.
I work there have done for years the no backload no pay is ■■■■■■■■ if true i wouldnt be here.
Its a decent firm moneys in the bank every week no issues. Tackles getting old but all totally roadworthy if it aint it dont go out.
The money stated is right but theres bonus’s on top 400-450 prob normal on puddle dodgers.
Staff turnover is relativly high but in all honesty i think its a lot to do with the fact they’ll give anyone a chance hence some leave as there not cut out for the job others sacked as not up to the job. Ones that stay usually very happy we’ve got some drivers with 25 years service and others on their third time back here.
Im nothing other than a driver but im realistic and have worked elsewhere before and im still here for a reason.

.
So are you lads on percentage bonus?
If so then maybe that’s where the confusion lies…hourly paid and bonus for the primary delivery;but if no backload then hourly pay only?
The statement all flash & no cash is the other end of the wedge to coopers I’d say. I’m not saying they’re minted but at least if he ain’t spunking his wedge on giga trotters then you will more than likely still have a job next year unless he really is running for buttons.
HIYA …IN THE 80’s COOPERS WAS THE BEST JOB YOU COULD EVER GET,.
Then metal box closed its london branches and the job sort of went down hill.
I’ve topped £450 a week with a old bedford KM in 83 no problem, you’ll not get that comparison nowadays.
still a good company but not what it was.we’d load into london maybe even Dunstable, run into clapton or palmer’s green
load then park on toddy. next day tip pennystone run into Manchester possibly do a local then load for next day
just go home (lorry at home). there was a list a mile long of driver’s trying to get on to coopers in the 80’s, even
running 8year old bedfords drivers was after jobs…Sad loss when berard had that misshap.RIP mate
John
Yes bri you hit the nail on the head it your hours or your bonus percentage whichever is highest.
And yeah i would agree with the other comment a very finanially secure company.
As for motors the fleet has come on leaps and bounds in the time ive been here almost all the old 85’s replaced with euro 5 xf’s.
My boy had been out of work for almost three years, when looking further afield,he checked out their website and saw that they do all manner of training, from LGV to ADR,CPC and more.
As my boy had obtained his own CPC,ADR and class 2, he was willing to travel the 50 mile round trip for the chance of a job.
He spoke to some guy in traffic, who was impressed with his qualifications and asked him up for an interview on a Friday morning about 5 weeks ago.
The interview went well and this guy said he’d call my boy back that same afternoon to confirm a job.
No return call!
Every time my boy called for several days after, the a/h was,“Not available”!
Seems to treat applicants like most agencies then?
The good news is,my boy has since landed a full time job with a local firm, driving 18t class 2,on £8-25 and hour. Now on his third week and over the moon.
Can’t stand it when people say they’ll call you back and don’t purely because they’ve changed their minds, no problem mate just flippin’ say so, i’m not going to jump down your throat on the phone, I get this type of thing all the time, no back bone most people, really disheartening.

It’s par for the course for agencies, but I would have expected better from what was thought of as a reputable company!
