Its not like 20 years ago mate i used to do nights there with a mate of mine called George Carr.First job was to go to a factory in Middlesbourgh on arrival i climbed up onto the top of the trailer to net it up/thats when the fun started a trailer full with pigs heads ,wot a job climing over to get the net down the sides.I was in the yard about 12 weeks ago things have changed 4 the betta all the trailers have easy sheets and a lot betta trucks. i passed a new Merc on the M1 last week .the smell is still there but the working conditions have improved, regars Nick
I work for B&S Pointon (red, white, green lorries) and we take all of our material up to there, I know they are relatives but the equipment is nice now to what it used to be and you do do some late nights and hard work but its something different than general haulage. Fingers crossed you get the job and maybe see you up there !!
Cheers
jP
I did my ADR course with a few of the lads from there.
Know bugger all about the motors or conditions, but they were a cracking bunch of fellas, laugh a minute, so I doubt it’s all doom and gloom.
Thanks guys , interview went well just waiting to hear off them see if I’ve got it or not
I worked there about 4 years ago. The job was really good I was only there 5 weeks but the only reason I left is because I got told there were no nights out, and I ended up doing 2 a week which I didn’t want. Some of the blokes have been there years and they are a good bunch
Some pictures to give you an idea of what you’ll be hauling
hi,friend of mine did a short stint there money and job quite good he said but the smell he couldnt get used to!if you can should be a decent job,
loaded out of there today and was told they are setting on again has they had 3 drivers leave over the
xmas break if anyone is interested
When I was off work I went to the butty van on the Dodworth By-pass in Barnsley next to Langdons and ordered a sausage, spam and egg sarnie for me and a bacon one for our lass and was tucking into them when a truck pulled into the lay by with a load of offal on the back. There was intestines and what ever else hanging over the top, I told our lass what he was carrying and she opens her door and spewed up
I gave her a bollocking for me wasting £2.50 on a sarnie she only took one bite out of The smell was overpowering I couldn’t do that sort of work myself. It didn’t put me off my sarnie though
With this sort of work are you allowed to do nights out or is it classed as hazardous to the public or somthing?

Going on my last experience of a sarnie from there it prob wasn’t the offal that made your lass spew!

You on about the one in the lay-by or the one across from Langdons? I’ve had a few from the one in the lay by and find they’re always good.

Yeah, layby one. Must have been a bad day when I called then.
I knew a plant fitter that lasted a day there, apparently he was working on a loading shovel and reached up above a wheel to find his hand immersed in rotting meat and a whole hoard of maggots, that was it, he was gone!
Got a mate who drives for them and seems happy enough, I’ve never heard him say a bad word about them, the job wouldn’t suit me but then we’re all different.

theirs a lot of unrest with the drivers at the min over the incab cameras as they also have sound on them as well. no privacy is what the drivers are complaining about i was told

I’d not turn a wheel in a unit with an in-cab camera. I’m a tramper, but even if I wasn’t, they’re not watching me. They monitor me on a tacho and a tracker, that’s plenty. If they don’t trust me to drive it safely etc, then I’d rather not drive it.
Can’t see what they could gain by watching me get changed of an evening, watching me eat etc. surely that is a violation of privacy. If they want to make it The Truman Show, I should be entitled to be paid 24 hours a day.
Just a speculative post, as we don’t have them.
I’ve been there to load and what a smell it is and seems to cling to your clothes. And I don’t want to go again
