It’s a VBG Drawbar Coupling with two handles, the one on top has two positions (up and down) and appears to release/lock the handle to the right. The handle on the right had three positions, forward, up and back. I’ve managed to use the coupling but only with annoying trial and error each time and cannot find a user guide for it due to it being of Swedish build. Would quite like to just know exactly what setting is for what.
Never seen one so can’t help you. But hey! I’ve followed you since you were in The Jam…respect mate.
Yeah things went downhill since The Jam, now I’m teaching people to drive trucks!

Do you teach them… In the city ?
Yes, and they’re all “Absolute Beginners”

OK can I book a course for my boy, I will pay you up front, and I’ll meet you Down in the tube station at midnight. is that OK?
You do realise mate this could go on for ■■■■■■ ages so I’ll leave you to your air valve jobby
(btw. As far as I know ‘‘Air valve jobby’’ was NOT a Jam track
)
Very common, down the tube station at midnight.
And they smell of pubs and wormwood scrubs.
Don’t you start

You are quite right the top is a lift up button which allows the bottom lever to operate.
To open the pin lift the locking button and lift the handle to the top position and this will release the drawbar pin.
Before recouping ensure the pin is open and the lever is in the Down position and the pin will automatically drop and lock when connecting to the trailer.
Hope this helps
John
Thanks John,
The handle on the right has three positions, in the photos it’s facing towards the underside of the vehicle (we’ll call that position 1). Then there is the up position where it’s pointing vertical (call that position 2), and then there’s another one where the handle faces outwards from the vehicle (position 3). To lift the pin and release the trailer I have been pulling the handle towards me to position 3. What I can’t work out is what the other two positions are, as when hitching up sometimes the pin fires and sometimes it doesn’t. As far as drawbar couplings go, I haven’t come across one with 3 positions before so can’t understand what they do.
Position 2 will allow the pin to stay open even when trying to recouple - to be honest don’t bother with using this - always return the lever to the down position as this will ensure the pin always drops when coupling/uncoupling.
John
So to summarise, position 1 (away) to set the coupling ready to receive the drawbar. Position 3 (towards) to release the trailer. I will try this tomorrow and see if it works. Thanks for your help!
