Anyone on here ever fail their class 2?

My trainer said they had a 89% pass rate, and by the law of averages 1 in 10 people would genrally be morons/incompetent so I must sit in with them… ■■■■■■ right off.

dsbs.co.uk/driving-test-pass-rates

Unless you’re on the Isle of Wight, none of them come close to 89%. Even if you are, your trainer has no right to speak to you like that, telling you you’re an incompetent moron. 60 or not, the prick would’ve known what I thought of him. Especially when you’re paying him a gob of money to train you.
Pick yourself up and book a retest with another company, he sounds like a prize ■■■■.

No he never called me that, I thought that myself if I was in the 1 in 10 I must be that. He was an ignorant old ■■■■ but he wsnt that bad! :grimacing:

I failed my class 2 six times and passed on the seventh attempt in 2004, i am not proud to admit it but there you are if it spurs you and others on then its worth it. I failed for all different reasons each time, nerves , emergency stop being another serious not being aggressive enough on the brakes apparently , but still stopped between the cones and within their criteria ,missed blind spot checks, a very poor instructor did not help, not being taught things that the examiner caught me out with on lots of occasions. It cost a lot of money to retake those tests , i eventually ran out of money so borrowed it from my dad and brother to carry on, that’s sheer bloody minded determination for you, just believe in yourself and carry on.

So needless to say that pass means more to me than most other peoples passes on here, never give in. I passed class 1 at the first attempt last November, so i felt i redeemed myself somewhat and exorcised a few demons at the same time, thanks to a brilliant instructor this time round.

The trainer I had for my CE was great with the lads

But gave me no confidence even told me I was not ready for my test but all the lads were they even got more time at the wheel the 1 thing he didnt like was the fact I was not paying for it ( as was on the sick it was paid for ) but he was also a liar as I caught him out couple times

I am lucky there are more than 1 trainer in my area but as has been said it shouldnt really matter as I have been all over this country driving with work not had much of a problem

As when you have passed you could be sent anywhere unless you are just going to stay local on 1 of the parcel networks

i failed my first class 2 test :frowning: only got 2 minors as well!thats what you call gutted!!

independant drive back to the test station, turned right at a roundabout, got cut up by a car driver that was ON THE PHONE! panicked because i thought id nearly hit him, and turned back in a bit too quick and just mounted the kerb!

could have got out the cab there and then and thrashed him! had it drilled into me all week about kerbs been an instant fail.

second time around, pulled up “in a convenient place” and just clipped a kerd with the front tyre…same examiner, and passed!

for the last part of the test i think my heart was hanging under the seat, but once i was told id passed it was the best feeling in the world,

KEEP AT IT, keep a clear head

That said…he was a crabbit old [zb], who never had anything positive to say to us(it was 2:1) constantly shouting at us, losing patience and asking what the [zb] we were playing at, how may times do you need told? etc … when ever we made mistakes. I personally didnt take it to heart as he was about 60,

Unforgiveable! I don’t care how old he is, that behaviour is totally unprofessional. I’m a similar age (been training truck drivers for 37 years so do the maths) and I hope I would never lower myself to speak to a candidate like that.

Candidates need to be very aware that most “trainers” are no more than drivers (possibly very experienced and skilled) who have got involved in training. Whereas there are trainers who are actually trained to do the job. And maybe that’s where the difference lies.

You are paying for professional training. If you don’t get that, you should simply demand your money back. It applies with everything else - what makes driver training any different?

If ever there was a substantiated adverse comment as above about me, I would retire immediately.

Pete

As others have said lots of people take to or more attempts to pass cat c. If you have got the money book another test strainght away. Keep a positive attitute. And not all trainers shout.

Don’t get too stressed about things. I failed my first one mainly due to gear issues and a bit of bad luck too but ater a day or so of moaning (at my poor wife) I got it out of my system. I did another 1/2 day of training and then had my test about a month later and passed with one minor. I was more nervous on my second test but did find that it made me concentrate much harder.

Get another test booked and crack on with it, once you get that out of the way you can move on to the C+E.

Let us know how you do with your re test.

Regards

Gutted for you mate, sounds like nerves got the better of you. Same happened to my work mate, but the examiner asked him what mistakes he thought he had made after the test and was satisfied that he was aware of them and let him pass. He is a good driver, but under test conditions nerves made him mess up. Better luck next time and try to think of the examiner next to you as just someone you are giving a lift to.

Failed mine today, [zb] ■■■■■■ right off. Started struggling with the gears, when I’d been fine with them all week (aside from the 1st day)
I ran back on a hill start when I had never ever done this in training.
I got pulled up afterwards for not changing down the gears as I come to a stop- I was told by my trainer that I should stop in the gear I am in and put on the handbrake and then change?

My trainer said they had a 89% pass rate, and by the law of averages 1 in 10 people would genrally be morons/incompetent so I must sit in with them… ■■■■■■ right off.

From what I’d read on here the only test that people generallly failed was the class 1. Did anyone on here who is driving fail their class 2?

I just walked to my car and disappeared as soon as it was was finished so I havent rebooked a re-test. I take it I should try and get this as soon as possible before I start forgetting?

makes you feel any better mate i passed on my 4th attempt like u say when training everthing goes well but when it comes to test the nerves got the better of me and i made mistakes that i never did before after i failed a 3rd time i said to myself if i dont pass next time im giveing up my confidence was really low and all the money id spent as well anyways i passed on the 4th time and all was good i had my class 2  so next time u take your test just chill out im sure you will be fine good luck mate

It sounds like it was just nerves.

Treat it as just (an expensive!) dress rehearsal, re-book and pass next time.

The comments from your instructor are unforgiveable, unless meant in (feeble) jest. Ignore them. If you weren’t ready for test, then he should have suggested you did a few more hours of instruction before taking the test. I blame him!

I was lucky, I passed first time, but a lot of it IS down to luck on the day, whatever anyone tells you.

Where I passed, in Yeading, the first time pass rate was 38%, so an awful lot of people take their test more than once!

You’ll be lucky next time and will be back to tell us!

Good luck!

If you do feel nerves got the better of you on the day, you could try this stuff.
revital.co.uk/-Bach_Flower_R … medy_Spray

I was a bag of nerves all week doing my C and felt I was doomed to failure on the Friday.
I gave that stuff a wee go on the test day and it mellowed me right out, dunno if it’s the old placebo effect or whatever but it worked for me.
I even sprayed some round the cab before the examiner got in hoping it might send him to sleep

There is a fair amount of luck involved as well though bud, I was quite jammy that I got the same test route in the afternoon as I had for my wee warm up drive in the morning.
Don’t give up it’s a shame to chuck all that cash away.

Ah, maybe Bach Flower Remedies is the magic answer to nerves!

I too, took them before my C and C+E, although I didn’t go quite as far as spraying it round the cab. :grimacing:

I do remember taking about 30 squirts, instead of the recommended 2, as I was SO nervous, that there was no discernible calming effect at all, to start with.

It was only AFTER the test that I read the ingredients properly and was horrified to read that the herbs were in a suspension of alcohol

Fortunately it’s only a small container…

Suggest you only take the recommended dose!

I passed on my 5th attempt on class2 i knew i’d pass just didn’t know when 6 months later went for class1passed 2nd time found it a lot easier still do now i work for haulage company driving class1s keep the faith you will do it think before you do something look ahead and use your mirrors a lot to see where you are on the road good luck fingers crossed for next time.

I had a trainer when i took my class2test said I shouldn’t be driving so I complained to the company was offered a retest and 4 hours training for free turned out he had done it to someone else too dont know what happened to him but never had him again .

Hi BBOY13

It doesn’t sound like you failed on much although at the time it feels like a disaster. Unless you really feel bad about the trainer I would suggest you stay with him. The main reasons for this are familiarity with the vehicle and the test area.

The atmosphere in the training vehicle with 2 candidates should be not of competition between the 2 but a sort of team spirit like you are all in the mission together. General banter and good humour helps lighten the mood in the early days when most mistakes are made and makes the candidates feel more relaxed. Although his attitude sounds bad was he praising you for the things you done well ?

Asking a trainer for his pass rate is virtually a pointless excercise because nobody is going to say 40% or 50% or 60%. If a trainer has 4 new students and 2 pass 1st time and the other 2 pass 2nd time the pass rate for the 4 is only 66% (6 tests - 4 passes) but it feels better than that. If a trainer has 2 passes in the same week is he entitled to say his pass rate is 100% they might be the only 2 passes that month. You get the point.

Pick yourself up and you will be fine next time. The experience of having been there makes the 2nd attempt more predicatable. You will not be as nervous next time and you know just how much you need to concentrate to pass.

Good luck

One lad I work with failed his C test twice, passed 3rd time then took his C+E a week later and passed first time with only one minor fault.
Write it off as a bad day at the office and don’t let it get you down.

If your trainer is genuinely as bad as you describe, go elsewhere.
You’re paying a lot of hard earned money to receive a good service, if that person isn’t willing to provide it then there’s plenty of decent LGV trainers out there who will.

Their 89% pass rate might be that 89% of all trainees starting to learn pass their test at some point, some will be first time other will be second, third or whatever time passes. The other 11% are probably those that either give up completely or more likely switch to another school.

It was a depressing and expensive time and put me off bigger vehicles for about 5 years :frowning:
