Anyone know the workings of a TGA

I have an old TGA (54 plate) that gets everything it wants to keep it running but lately the ride is becoming very harsh the front cab mounts where done last year and it doesnt go offroad so they should still be ok, the rear A frame above the drive axle was replaced 3 months ago, none of the cab airbags leak and all inflate as they should, i cant find any leaky shockers either

Any thoughts were this slamming me in the back and general roughness in the ride is coming from?
do these have rear cab mounts like at the front?

Anything been done suspension bush wise?

Ride can get poor from shocks getting tired even if not leaking. Might be able to age them from whether got original chassis paint. Also check none of the shock bolts are loose. If there’s a real ride deterioration it’s generally much more likely to be chassis rather than cab based.

Don’t no if its the same on the tga but the older mans you have to retract the cab tilt ram fully by keeping pumping when the cab drops into place otherwise you drive with the cab resting on the ram bloody awful ride !I have had on another truck wrong ride height don’t no how but ride height was to low so no travel in the rear air bags it looked ok but was a obviosly a hard ride think they just plugged it in and reset it

Have you checked the cab ram bushes ?

They have a habit of wearing out , doing off road work the will last less than a year.
But if your truck has been on main roads this might be them only wearing out now.

It gives you a vibration and nasty bumping through the floor of the cab ?

Try unbolting the bottom end and having a look , you can tell if tops worn by play and feel.

Yours at a 54 plate should have a small thin rubber bush at both ends and are easy to replace.
Just a case of unbolting and pushing in by hand.

The newer Tgx ones have the same bush on the bottom but a bigger bush on the top ( funny half rubber affair :frowning: ).
Our fitter has replaced these top bushes with a sold bush from a trailer.

The bottom one is such a thin , flimsy idea (both on the older ones) our fitter just shims it with bit of old plastic grease cartridge.

Bit rough I know but the rate they wear out on logging trucks , it saves a fortune in bushes  .

Might not be the problem but worth a look ?.

Cheers fellas,
Dingo, the cab ram bushes have never been replaced in the 600k i have driven it for, in fact nothing chassis/suspension wise has been changed while i have owned it, i.ll change those bushes and see how i get on

Thanks

Sounds like my old girl at a similar milage, the rear airbag/shock absorbers had damp patches though. I replaced all units on each corner and the magic carpet ride returned.

i dont think i could ever have compared it to a magic carpet joe

Yes… I have to agree with you there Big Joe…We did the four cab airbags(shocks are built in) and the front cab mounting bushes in our old TGA and it made it very smooth and positive. I think the cab, especially the XXL is very large and heavy, and you must keep an eye on these items…but once they are in order, the truck rides perfectly
