Im 28, been driving since I was 21. Enjoy the job alot of the time but id like to do something else… Should have done better at school I guess.
There is nothing better than truck driving if you work for a good company with decent equipment fair wages and a good bunch o workmates
I am 20 so i dont drive a proper truck, i pilot a 7.5t DAF. I will be taking my class 2 as soon as i turn 21 next summer. My birthday is on a Saturday and i will be starting it on the following Monday!
I work/ run the company with my dad and its not much but to me i am running Eddie Stobart! It helps knowing the boss but i havent sat around not doing anything and have missed things that my mates have been doing due to work but that doesnt bother me! I have been very lucky in the oppourtunities that i have had/will have regarding paying for training costs etc.
I too love my job and wouldnt change it. A lot of my mates are at Uni but i didnt want to go, its not for everyone. Sometimes they take the mick about the fact i can tell them how to get to most places in the UK and what roads they need to take.
I took my National CPC when i left school at 18 and will be taking my International CPC a week on Monday and i am really looking foward to it.
I think there should be a more positive view from people inside the industry about getting new blood into transport. I think there are more youngsters out there who want to be lorry drivers than most people think.
Got my bus licence when I was 18, class 2 at 21 and class 1 at 22. been tramping since march and love it. 23 in feb
I’m 29 now and got my Class 2 at 22 and Class 1 at 23. I know quite a few blokes that I went to school with that are driving now. Some of my mates think it is the worst job in the world to do, but then again I couldn’t sit at a desk all day.
I’m 21 and been driving since 1988!!

You can always go back to school. Well College, I did when I was 30, spent 2 years getting an HND in Computing, spent another 2 years in the IT sector and found out the thing I really like to do is to drive trucks. Funny old World
21 and been driving as 4 or 5 weeks now
I’m 22, passed just after my 21st birthday back in May 2008.
Sometimes when I’m being worked like a dog and each customer I meet does sod all but drink tea and chat all day I do wonder whether I’m in the right job… Then I remember what it was like being stuck in a miserable engineering firm back in my teens, how each hour seemed like a day and four o’clock could never come quick enough, I appreciate driving much more. At least I’m not stuck in the same four walls and there’s little opportunity to get bored. It’s just a shame that my job opportunites are limited by age discrimination by commercial vehicle insurance companies!

I know what you mean. A couple of years ago I did 2 weeks holiday cover for a garage I used to work as a mechanic before I started driving, as I had a bit of time in between leaving one job and starting another. Every time the transporters turned up to deliver new cars I kept thinking ‘Let me have a go’. I couldn’t wait to get back to driving again !.
As im 15 i dont drive anything apart from a little go in the car now and again, but my 2 uncles are drivers and i go with one of them when im off school and i enjoy that, im predicted grade c’s at gcse so i could do alot more but i think i want to be a driver no doubt about it

If the average age of a trucker is supposed to be about 50 and all you young uns are here then there must be some truckers over 75 to balance it out
my stepson who is 22 said to me last weekend that he wanted to learn to be a truck driver when id finished laffing and picked myself up off the floor
I said yeah good idea go join the army and do it he is now applying to ,it has upset his mother a bit thou
