hi,
I was thinking of applying to yearsleys at heywood, on class 2 at the minute with a few days every now and then covering drivers on class 1, I passed in january (class 1) and was looking for something like supermarkets or store delivers of some type?
Anyone know the script at Yearsleys? hours, pay, general opinion of the company?
any help appreciated
cheers
Not Yearsleys, but have you spoken to Fowler Welch? They operate similarly to Yearsleys so I’d imagine the hours/pay/etc are similar, they’re just round the corner.
I did a shift a Yearsley’s last week on Class 1 (Bilsthorpe) looks a pretty decent set up, they were advertising for drivers earlier on in the year and the quoted salary was circa 28k for a 5 out of 7 shift pattern. They do a lot of Brakes work - the shift I did was running out to a Brakes depot. Job wise it was the standard check sheets and run sheets, times and temps that sort of thing, pick up and drop trailer at the start and end of the shift, fuel up on site, all Actros wagons which looked clean and well maintained.
Apparently they’ve started doing rock n roll work, mainly in the summer with festival stuff. Not hearing good things though, it’s a job and industry not suited to everyone and the generic agency drivers who’ve done some festivals wearnt getting great reviews!
think you talking about brian yeardley there m8 completely diffrent outfit and they do do expo work

I did think about them but was told by many that you near enough need to speak polish to work there, drivers and transport office staff all polish apparently

Possibly. A few years of rock n roll have left me slightly mutton so I probably misheard!

I worked the night shift and it was depot to depot but it might be different on days. The last 6 weeks, apart from the odd shift, I have been working directly for Brakes trunking between various depots and more often than not there are one or two Yearsley’s trucks sat on the bays along side the Brakes trucks.
From what I understand the vast majority of the customer deliveries made by Brakes are done with the rigids because the runs are planned multi-drops often involving premises with limited access.
Obviously my original comments were made with regard to a different depot to that mentioned in your OP so I can’t help with your questions specifically - I just chimed in to offer a bit of info’ which I thought might be of a general interest to you, hopefully other more knowledgeable members will be able to help you further.
Yearsley only do depot to depot for Brakes mainly from the Yearsley Newark site.
