The A9 is bad enough without that carry on. Im with you though cant think of a lay by that you would even think it was possible to do.
I was driving up that way yesterday, there is a petition to get the road made into dual-carriageway.It was on the news that there was a lorry accident near Blair Atholl and the road was closed again.

Been closed most of the day. Was still closed when I passed about 4pm.
Chugging up a hill one day, being passed by another truck I was undertaken in a layby by a van but I canāt imagine how the trucker thought he was going to make it.
I will say though that it must have been a long old layby and the woman must have realised what he was doing. Why didnāt she stop?
Either that or it was a short layby and she was going that bloody slow that he thought he could make it?

Um - he was apparently āundertakingā a tractor, not her car. In doing so he rolled his lorry onto its side, crushing the car.

Oh right, where was she then? In front of the tractor or parked in the layby?
No idea. Maybe she was travelling in the opposite direction?
I admit to doing this on the A40 once; Bloody clapped out tractor struggling with dodgy cattle trailer (wobbly wheels, dropping mud the lot). Not proud of it but I was worried about following such a heap of junk. He was going so slow about 6 cars followed me aswell.
Yes, she was travelling in the opposite direction when this plonker carried out his passing manoeuvre, emerging from the layby on two wheels and veering into her path. She swerved to escape, but the lorry toppled over onto her car. He claimed that a canister of wet wipes rolled under the brake pedal, preventing him from braking.
The man is clearly a dangerous ā ā ā ā and should have his licence revoked permanently.
whilst having little sympathy for the truck driver, surely the tractor driver must have something on his conscience.
No truck driver would consider trying such a manouevre unless he was really, really frustrated at being behind the tractor.
If there was a lay by there the tractor driver should have pulled over for a few secs.
(obviousley this opinion is based on the report I read and there may well be other factors to consider)

This happened at the lay-by on the s/bound side just south of the Bankfoot turning. It has a divider between it and the main carriageway, but is a small lay-by,only just enough room for a couple of artics.

It has a long,narrow run in to it,but a very short,almost non-existant run out.
The man was an idiot if he thought he could get away with a manouvre like that.
Todays incident involved an artic going of the road just near the speed camera at Blair Atholl.Looked as if he was n/bound (thatās the way he was facing anyhow)but had gone down an embankment on s/bound side. Was laying on its o/s,held up by trees.Hope the driver is o.k.

crikey i quite ofton have my 45 min break in that layby, thank the man that i wasnt that day
we all know the guy was a complete ā ā ā for doing what he did.
but we havnāt got all the facts.
most tractor drivers pull into laybys to let faster vehicles get by.
was the lorry in good condition before the accident? tyres, brakes?
iāve seen some bread wagons in a very dodgy condition.
he shouldnāt have done it, iām not trying to back him up, iāve never done it myself, but i can honestly say iāve been tempted.
the press only print the juicy bits.
iāve been tempted once or twice to do that on my motorbike, but wouldnāt do it for safety reasons.
if i wouldnāt do it on my bike, why the hell would he try in in a ā ā ā ā ā ā ā lorry?
I love how people are saying the tractor driver should of pulled in or the woman should of
He NEVER should of under took him simple as that
Why do we try to protect drivers that have no place on the road
Even asking about vehicle condition is a joke again driver shoud do his checks if vehicle is faulty donāt take it out AND DONT UNDERTAKE ON A LAYBY
Big beefy, I am sure we all agree that the truck driver was at fault.
However it doesnāt alter the fact that the tractor driver MAY have been an awkward git who had been holding him up for the last 5 miles.
Itās always worth having a look at what the problems leading up to the incident may have been.
If we all simply said the trucker is at fault and left it at that, the forum would be a pretty boring read
Ban him for life simple
