Sorry to say Slimshade but I’d think you’ve got Slimchance. With plenty of experienced drivers chasing work you are not bringing much to the table, you’ll probably find something, somewhere but it’ll probably be a crap job for crap money. I could be wrong but…
crap job crap money who cares i gotta start somewere i dont care if its a job driving a reliant supervan its better than sitting around sponging off society like most sponging ■■■■■

fair play and good luck.
I’ve known a few people with DR10s who have had truck driving jobs, you need to look at smaller firms rather than larger ones.

Why are you sitting around sponging off society? Because you can’t get a driving job? You’re not exactly a catch at 25 with DR on your brief! Get any job ffs while you’re waiting for the crap driving job to come along, which could take some time…

You post could be interpreted that way.You must be sponging off somebody if not the dole? Here’s a tip for ya, when looking for work most employers prefer to take on somebody who is already employed which can be a bit hard on you if you’re out of work. I think they take the view that there’s some kind of work out there for anybody who really wants to work, therefore those who are not in work are choosing to be. So to help break that cycle it’s a case of taking anything you can get and moving it on from there. You’re 25 with a DR. I’ve got a mate who is 47 with a DR. He’s done more than I’ve ever done in driving including continental and been an O/D. The only job he’s been able to dig up in the last two years since he got his brief back is with what can only be described as a right cowboy and he’s running very bent. And this is in the South East where work is more abundant. Drive yourself mad if you want trying to find a driving job but it’s a buyers market right now.

I certainly wasn’t an angel when I was younger and it’s that experience that would stop me taking on the likes of Slim, many others will share that view. I thought I was giving him a realistic picture of his situation. Best thing for him to do is get a job. Any job.
Right Slim, you’re a very silly boy for getting a DR10 to start with when driving is/was your game, but I guess you already know that now.
Suggest get a warehouse/forks job. Is there any funding available for forks license? If there is you would almost certainly have to be signed on to job seekers etc. to be eligable.
This should be at a larger co. who also has their own trucks & drivers so that opportunity may come to move accross to driving.
Re not signing on for benefits: You say you have worked before so presumably paid NI & income tax. You have paid into the system so are entitled to a bit back out in times of need. That’s how it works. (even if in this case its your own fault - although you don’t give detail). As another poster said, you’re sponging off somebody for your keep (which ain’t cheap nowadays). Howabout swallowing your pride (if you have any respect for them) and helping them out? (bank of Mum & Dad per chance)?
I hope you are spending at least 6 hours a day scouring job websites, local papers, etc. and popping your head around doors locally.
Good luck. Don’t forget to come back here and let us know how things work out … and I hope they do.
Thanks for the advice I appreciate it very much
I sponge of myself I was clever enough to put some money aside for rainy days so that’s come in helpful,
The first thing I do every day is scowl jobs sites sit down with yellow pages ringing and google it aint thru lack of trying matey
I’ve booked my class one I’ve got my assessment today all funded for by myself ill do my class 1 and see if that helps me opens my options a bit as a few people have told me it will help.
Regards slimshade
PM me if you do get your Class 1, no promises but I do know someone who employs a DR10 driver, the job isn’t the best and the money isn’t the best but the trucks and work are all legal, I will always pass on a phone number.
DONT let anyone put you off trying mate…Youve done the time for the crime, like someone said take anything you can get and work from there. We all make mistakes in life, its what we learn from them that counts
I was in the same shoes as you 25 yrs ago…You got balls coming on here and putting your case …Good luck Mate

This.
Far to many holier than thou on here. And most of them probbally couldnt drive nails with a good hammer.
Good job you do not need to spell to drive a truck.
I wonder if the OP will be courteous to come back and let us know how he’s getting on?
Or maybe it will be like so many threads here where we are al left dangling.

If you notice at the top of this page it says trucknet not " we must be brain surgeons "
Just a couple of pionts,
firstly if you dont sign on when your out of work you may loose some entitlement to sone of your national insurance contributions, this means you wont have enough in for your pension in later life, I admire the pay for yourself idea and not sponge of the tax payer but remember you are and always will be a tax payer so have what your entitled to or you could loose it.
Secondly, there are plenty of up there own arse people who will look down at you saying “get any job” but the fact is there arnt many jobs out there, believe me i know, but its very easy to critisise when you have a job and have been for some time, would be different if they lost there job and had to go out and find work for themselves.
A friend of mine who owns a small company advertised in the local rag for a partime temp girl to standin for her PA who was going on maternity leave, in three days she had over 500 applications many with degree’s and diploma’s all chasing a part time temp job at minimum wage, so dont take to much notice of the “go get any job brigade” cause most of the time they dont live in the real world.
ood luck with the job hunt and dont give up, something will come you just need to be in the right place at the right time.
Get some cheap business cards done and go round all the companies offering your services even if they only need a a short notice tempary stand in.
