Don`t look at haulage companies for small parcels.You need a carrier.Someone like SPDS will do 10kgs for about £13.
Do the service buses still do parcels,they used to be really cheap.

Had you have asked last Tuesday/Wednesday, my mate ran from Aberdeen to Inverness on Thursday after leaving his base near Selby on Wednesday.
