Anybody remember SCA Express?

Did you mean Barrie Dilly?
who worked for Leggetts, Laeubli and Hangartner etc…?

One&only

I think it was Tony Horne that left SCA to open a pub in Sotton . His first customer was a policeman in full uniform. Tony dropped dead on the spot of a massive heart attack! You have mail.
The one I’m thinking of was tall with dark wavy hair.

Last I saw of Barrie Dilley he was after a job at HND Int. in Strood ca.1998-9. He was working for Dutch Haulier driving to Morocco last I heard.
Tony Horne was an old army mate of Steve Deighton (ex- HTS - Groupex - couple of Swiss firms - Aurora etc.) who now lives in Canada.
Have had no contact with either of them for years.

Johnny Edwards lived in Sudbury & last seen driving for Youngs. The gal was called Maureen & married Ron Hall. Bunny married a gal in Dublin & had his own transport company there- Comeat but poor old boy got Motor Neurone Disease & ended up in a wheel chair. I remember Alfredo ,good bloke. Allassandro jacked in because he didn’t want to work Sundays.

Hi there HARRY,thanks for reverting back to me so soon, now you mention the bit about bunny, i belive someone back along did tell me he had gone to ireland, and as for johnny edwards he doesnt live that far from me, ill see if i can make contact wit him through youns, they might be able to give me some info, can you harry remember the driver who had te bad accident one year on the torin to milan autostrader,i think it was around the novara area, shut the autostrader for most of the day if i remember right, i was luky that i was heading back to london so didnt affect me much apart for th rubber neckers.Cheers once again HARRY, KEEP IN TOUCH MATE. :unamused:

I don’t remember the Autostrada job but I do remember on the old road on the same route a driver with a Scania 3 ax unit & trailer turned it on it side after wiping out a Cinquocento in the middle of a village. The villagers turned out in force & threw rocks at the cab with the driver still inside. The driver was Italian. Not nice!

:sunglasses: hello once again harry, the accident your on about isnt the one in question, the one im on about defenitly was on the autostrada, but never mind, were you on sca when the boss man was doing tanker work,i remember him buying a belgium company out, think the town was called bijloo, dont know if ive spelt that right, but i do remember taking a couple of tanks there, think most of the tank work was into germany and belgium, trouble is the old grey matter isnt working so well these days.do you remember the sca truck stop at MORGEX we all used to use, think one of the lads was going out with one of the girls that worked there, cant remember her name for the life of me,were im working now harry there is one of our driver who when i was talking about sca said to me that his uncle used to be a machanic for sca, i must ask him who he was, and ill let you know. ok got to pop out now, pity there arnt a few more pic on here, but dare say some will get posted as and when there found, take good care of youself harry, till next time then. :unamused:

I remember the chief mechanic -Bob. I went out to France with him to recover a 3ax Scania & trailer. I sold him an old MK10 Jag. Tony Burroughs sold him another one & he was going to make a decent car out of the two of them but in the end he dumped them both.

i think the mechanic was my uncle bob wright who lived in canningtown,he lost an eye at some point in his career and he always drove jags.he was married to my mothers sister my aunt pat and they had 9 children.newham council knocked two houses into one and they had 6 bedrooms.bob died about 6 years back leaving 9 children and lots of grand children.a real character from the old school, they dont make em like that anymore

I spent 2/3 days with Bob when he rescued a broken down Scania. We both got lifts on other SCA trucks & went to middle France. The trailer was loaded but the unit had been towed in to an old village garage & they didn’t have clue. the prob was transmission or Engine. Bob borrowed some metal & a oxy burner & patched it up & I drove him back to UK. When we reached Blackwall tunnel the radar went off for being overheight. Bob was knackered & just wanted to get to Island Row & said.’ Keep going-keep going!!’ We got to the other side of the river & a Beagle was waiting for us. The funny thing was that it was a LHD. The Beagle opened Bobs door thinking it was the drivers & gave him a real billocking. Bob kept spluttering that he was not driving then the beagle slammed the door & told him to get moving!!
I didn’t stop laughing until we were in the yard.

I remember Johnny Edwards when we worked for Swallows. I started on the firm in 81 as a holiday relief and recall taking over his unit whilst he went on leave. He was a mad golfer and his cab was full of golf tees and golf balls. The firm got taken over by Cadwalladers later in the year and I have a feeling that Johnny left when that happened…not 100% sure about that though, he might have stayed on for a while.
rgds Ron

John had a good firm at one time but he went bankrupt because of his obsession with golf. He lost his business wife & home because of golf. Good bloke tho’.

I’ve lived here fifteen & half years. Packed in driving wagons when I was 48. Now in my 65th year. By the way, “Captmarvel” who posts on here has made contact with me and I’m due to meet him tomorrow. No doubt there will be diesel sloppin’ about all over the table!

I’m just outside Pats but meeting people from the net hasn’t been a great success story sadly for me so I will stay low.
